Most restaurants are "kid friendly" all it takes is a little preparation.
1. Explain to the kids what the expected behavior is. This is a restaurant and it is/can be a dangerous place. Servers are walking around with heavy plates of food. Hot food. Any spilling can cause harm. So no running around. Use inside voices. (This goes for adults as well.) Everyone in the place does not need to know what went on in the bathroom.
2. Don't go when the kids are tired or over hungry. Stick to a regular routine.
3. Bring some small snacks that can be given even before the bread, crackers or what have you are brought to the table.
4. Bring a book or something else to keep them occupied. But hold off on this as long as possible.
Kids need to learn how to converse at the table and books and toys should be used as a last resort.
5. Adults should pay attention to the kids, talk to them and not on the phone or texting.
Following some of these everyone should have a great time and it would be a pleasure to sit next to your family.
