My daughter plays both competitive softball, and club volleyball. She says she wants to quit volleyball and concentrate on softball.

What I've noticed, is that although both are 'team' sports, softball is probably more challenging and technical with more one-on-one opportunities. For example when you're batting, it's just you and the pitcher. She's going to throw you her best stuff, try to fool you in some cases and you're going to show her that you'll hit whatever she gives you. Volleyball players might dispute the one-on-one comment by saying if a player spikes the ball it's up to one player in most cases to 'dig' it out. That's true for the older girls but in my daughters case being 12 years old, there's not much spiking going on in her volleyball games. But on the other hand, playing the infield you can have a screamer hit right at you and you need to come up with a play to get the runner out, and keep the others from scoring.

Which one is better??? It depends what you're looking for in a game, one that is easier to play (volleyball), or one that will challenge you in every aspect.

**This is just one dads opinion, sorry if I ruffled the feathers of you volleyball players**

I have played sofball and volleyball, and I prefer softball. For starters I have played softball since I could walk and volleyball only for 4 years. I quit volleyball because I am better at softball and enjoy it more. In softball you practice many skills.. such as:: hitting, fielding, catching(for me), possibly pitching, bunting, slapping.. the list goes on. While in volleyball there isnt much to do.. you bump, set, spike, serve, jump serve, and there isnt much more. The game of softball is more of a challenge and it is more hands on. You come into contact with the players on the opposite team instead of passing a ball at them. Softball is my chosen sport :D

Both, depending on the 'goal' :)

Volleyball is a good team sport, and those more enthusiastic can all kinda dominate the games, and everyone who isn't as into it can still participate and chat and stuff.

Softball is a good sport for more competitve people, and everyone gets their own little 'go', and then its a bit easier when you're fielding.

    I personally prefer softball :)

Volleyball!!! You can play it inside or outside or on the beach! You can play with a full team or you can play with 2 people or 4 people.

The rules of volleyball are pretty simple too.
