How did you choose your kids' names/your favorite names?
If you have a kid/kids, give their names. If you don't have kids yet, give your favorite name for a boy and for a girl.
Think of how you chose those names. Then list how important each of the following factors were to you, from 5 (extremely important) to 1 (not important at all). Feel free to elaborate, and list other factors that influenced you, if I missed any.
A. The sound of the name
B. The meaning of the name
C. How well it will fit a baby/child
D. How well it will fit an adult
E. How common or uncommon it is
F. Other people or things with the same or similar names (family members, historic figures, fictional characters, cities, objects, etc.)
G. How well it expresses your/your family's style or image (trendy, traditional, hippie, geeky, scholarly, sophisticated, country, casual, goth, urban, suburban, etc.)
Here are mine:
Boy: Roland Arthur
Girl: Fiona Justine
A. 5
B. 1
C. 2
D. 5
E. 4
F. 5 for Roland, 2 for Fiona

I don't have any children yet, I'm only 16!, but as of right now my favorite names are Clara Julianne (pronounced Klah-rah) and Loren Eugene.
A. 4 - The names have to sound good, or else the name just doesn't work! I think that they don't have to flow perfectly, though. I don't think my pronunciation of Clara sounds the best with Julianne, but I love the combo nonetheless.
B. 1- Personally, I don't care about what a name means. My name is Serena and means calm and serene, which doesn't always fit me, but I still make my name, if that makes sense.
C. 1- They're only going to be children for the first couple years of their life! No need to give them a babyish name.
D. 5- I'm not going to give my kid a childish name because it's cute and they're a baby. They're going to be adults longer than they're going to be kids so they have a right to a nice name that will age well.
E. 4- My parents wanted to give us all uncommon names so that we wouldn't be one of 5 Katie's and whatnot in a class. I'm forever thankful to them for that! Because of that, I want to give my kids a more uncommon name. I go by the ranking of the state, though, instead of national level, because even if Emily is #1 on the national level, it's not as popular in Minnesota, same for other names. If a name is in the top 100, I'm not as inclined to use it, but if I truly love the name, then I will make some exceptions.
F. 5- I love choosing names after people. Clara is an old family name of mine dating back to before my ancestors came to the United States from Germany. That is where I get the pronunciation of the name from. Loren, on the other hand, is just a name I like. Eugene is after my Grandpa who passed away who meant the world to me, and I would love nothing more than to honor him. Plus, it's my other Grandpa's middle name, and my brother's middle name. Julianne is after my aunt Julie who has been my best friend my whole life. Julianne is my favorite variant of Julie, so I chose to use it.
G. 1- Okay, my dad's side of the family is all farmers. Even all of our extended relatives are farmers! Don't get me wrong, I love it, and I even plan on going to college for agricultrual journalism (and I want to marry a farmer!) but I'm not going to give my kids farmer names if I don't like the name. I'm just going to give my kids names that I like, regardless of how they sound out in the boondocks.
My mom's side of the family is.... yeah. I don't know... they're kind of... I don't know how to describe them. So that's a no.
Great question!

Favorite boy name: Micah Dominic Alexander
Favorite girl name: Anna Jacqueline Teresa
A: 5 (The sound of the name)
B: 1 (The meaning of the name)
C: 2 (How well it will fit a baby/child)
D: 5 (How well it will fit an adult)
E: 5 for Micah, 2 for Anna (How common or uncommon it is)
F: 5 (Other people or things with the name or similar names)
G: 4 (How well it expresses your/your family's style or image)
Micah Dominic Alexander:
I admit, I put Disney Channel on in my room before I go to sleep at night. There's nothing wrong with that, right? Anyway, I looked over at the screen for one second. A boy was talking and there was a little side bar that said 'Micah'. I immediately fell in love with the name. I first found Alexander with it from a poster on a different website, so it was Micah Alexander for a while. I wanted to include a family name, so I chose my Brother, Dad, and Grandpa's name, Dominic. The name flowed well and I was satisfied. I am very picky about this name's popularity. It is not extremely common at the moment, and I hope it stays that way. I usually don't care if a name I love it super popular, but I hope this one stays uncommon. This has been my favorite boy name for months.
Anna Jacqueline Teresa:
Anna first started out as Ana, pronounced (Ah-nah). I forget where I heard 'Ana', but I loved it. I had it with Joy, Ana Joy. I realized after a while that I liked Anna much, much better. I love the sound of it. Both Jacqueline and Teresa are family names. Jacqueline is my Mom's name and Teresa is my middle name and used as many middle and first names in my family. I currently have Teresa as the second middle name for all of my girl names. I do not care how popular Anna is. Anna has been my favorite girl name for months also.
Both Micah and Anna will hardly ever be misspelled, as well as most of the middle names, which is another reason why they are favorites.
Wow, that was long. Ha, but that's how I chose them.
