maiden progressed through the years, i saw piece of mind live and the album was a gem, but the first 2 or 3 rocked and stood out from the crowd of early metal. the next 3 showed a progressed sound and style, the thing is as maiden was progressing metal, especially theme metal was dying.

so powerslave i think was the next album then somewhere in time then i saw maiden with slayer and slayer rocked while maiden was the opening act.

i liked the raw sound of killers but number of the beast was when i discovered maiden, the video just grabbed me.

crue too fast for love is a rocking good time, i would have loved to see a re recording of the material, they thrived the whole metal days going from the satan metal through glam rockers to post glam.

tommy had a gr8 reality career.

shout at the devil was their hey day.

def leppard high and dry videos played at the same time maiden was breaking out, in fact a whole british invasion was breaking out with mtv. pyromania was pretty much pop music but did rock, they managed to have an extended career even with the drummer loosing an arm.

rush too had an extended career going more pop and well refined sound going from all most jam band to using electronics. though more recent rush bores me the old videos were great.

metallica, i liked the early raw sound but justice for all and the black album seemed too commercial to me, not exactly the music but the production and recording.

the bass and drums are boring with little impact, like the recording engineers and mixers just mixed the music with predetermined settings, even on high end systems i just hear a chuffing sound where there should be bass.

dave left metallica for megadeath and they like maiden progressed and their sound and style were high quality and many used the music to evaluate sounds systems streghnts and weakness.

    dream theater idk.

priest is incredible, each album is close to masterpiece, defenders of the faith was my most memorable album but even their early stuff was recorded and produced well even close to singer songwriter status, i believe halford produced his own music and it shows.

i do not like acdc, it seems too basic, although they rock i saw an interview with them and when asked if they will change their style ever they said no, our style is what fans love and expect so unlike others in this question they never progressed and anytime i hear back in black i cringe.

kiss is another that either progressed survived or reinvented themselves, though they are kind of a pop metal band they marketed themselves with some good rock.

look at the unmasked album and tour, family jewels like ozzy brought rock reality into our homes as well as brett mMichael'sof poison, rock of love.

i saw the last poison tour and they were great.

Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast

    Rush - probably Moving Pictures

Metallica - Death Magnetic, then Master of Puppets [ awesome band BTW]

Dream Theater - Octavarium, then Scenes From a Memory [also a really good band!]

Judas Priest - Screaming For Vengeance

    AC/DC - Back In Black

    Kiss - Destroyer

Not sure about Def Leppard or Motley Crue, don't really listen to them. Good choice of other bands though!
