    (Preparation)

Prepare your car for moving away......That is.... Move your indicator to signal to the right.....Select the drive gear and hold your handbrake up with the button pressed in.

    While doing this.

    (Observation)

Check your interior mirror......Your right hand wing mirror....And look over your shoulder around your blind spot.

    (Manoeuvre)

If all is clear...Move away safely. Check your interior mirror again after.

The system for learning this are the letters....P...O...M.

    (P) Preparation (O) Observation (M) Manoeuvre These must be done in that order every time you move away from a standing start.

    (1) P.O.M.) (2) M.S.M. (3) M.S.P.S.L.

As for the thumbs down on every answer... You haven't got a clue. I bet you haven't even given an answer.

I am talking about 35 years of experience. This letter method is the same as the M.O.T. Driving Manual teaches you. It is also what you are tested on.. If your Instructor is not teaching you by this method, then get one that does.

It is the same principle as with a manual car, ie. importantly you must have either the handbrake on or the gear engaged at any time. So, from P (Park) on the gear selector and with the handbrake on and your foot on the brake pedal, select D (Drive), the gear engages and you feel the gears take up control of the car (ie. it would not freewheel if you took the handbrake off), Check your mirrors, indicate, look over your shoulder, foot brake off, pull away.

Check your mirrors and any blind stops, check hand brake is on, engage 1st, then increase engine speed very, very slightly, mirrors again, indicators on, when happy with conditions, release handbrake so car moves forward then handbrake fully off, then drve as conditions dictate, stay within speed limit.
