What specifically are you asking? The condition I think you are referring to is called myocarditis. Myocarditis is inflammation of the heart muscle, which can cause damage to cardiac cells and potentially lead to heart failure. The damage to the cardiac cells leads to the release of cardiac markers into the blood stream, such as troponin, CPK and CKMb. Heart attacks cause similar elevation of these markers, but myocarditis does not cause heart attacks per se. The most common cause is viral infection. The specific viruses associated with myocarditis are Coxsackie B, Adenovirus, Parvovirus B19, and Herpes virus 6. The severity of myocarditis is variable - from no or minimal symptoms to fulminant severe heart failure requiring heart transplant. Myocarditis is evaluated by EKG, Echocardiogram and sometimes Endomyocardial biopsy during a cardiac catheterization. Other testing may be required to determine the specific cause if necessary. The outcomes and treatment depends on the cause of myocarditis. Some patients may improve with treatment and others may require a heart transplant. I am not sure why you are asking about this. If you are affected by this or someone you know. Discuss this with your doctor if it is you, because they know the full details of your case. Good luck.
