good containers for brewing beer???? help asap!!?

I have brewed a couple of batches of beer and am wanting to make some more.washing and filling 12oz bottles is a great pain. any suggestions on containers with prove success that will hold up to the pressure.would screw on lid 1/2 gallon glass jugs work.or maybee mason jars ???? the lock top type are ok but way to expensive

    Try using 16 oz bottles. Perhaps a local beer distributor will let you have a couple of cases of returns for the cost of the deposit. Cleaning them the first time is a bear, though. Some home brewers go to kegs or growlers. Stay away from the other containers you suggest, though. Too much chance of making bottle-bombs.

    12oz bottles are chosen for a few reasons, among them are they are strong and durable and cheap, and the beer lasts longer in dark colored glass. 24oz bottles work well. I would avoid using plastic jugs with screw on tops. you need to consider such things as mold and mildew when using screw on lids. I have never had exploding glass bottles and I brew my own beer. One item you should have is a hydrometer so that you can check the final gravity of the beer to see if it is at least 1.019 or less before bottling and you should not have any exploding bottles.
