I'm no technician, but it sounds like an average power failure. I think simply buying a new, hdtv would be easier, and maybe cheaper...

It is the power board of the tv that needs to be replaced. It is not cost effective to repair the tv, due to the cost of labor. You are better off buying a new Plasma tv 42" for around $500. You can also email the manufacturer and see what they say, ask for a cost estimate before having it fix. Hope this will help you out.
