Driving south to Orange County: Should I take highway 154 as a short-cut?

I'm driving south on 101 to the LA area. Is it worth it to take the 154 shortcut near Santa Barbara, or is that road full of slow-driving idiots. I know it's 2-lane. Or is it just faster to take 101 along the coast to SB.

    There are no effective short cuts through the Santa Barbara area. Decades of NIMBYism has caused the whole area there to become a traffic nightmare.

    Forget the 154 - its a winding country road. It is a beautiful road on a nice day, but it won't get you anywhere fast. If you want to get to LA the fastest stick to the 101.
