Easy way to increase my honda civics performance?

Ok well im new to cars and modding and all that stuff. But ive recently become very interested. I have a 2007 honda civic sedan. I just got my windows tinted too give it more of a sleek look and I have thoughts about getting some nice rims. But for now I want to focus on the cars performance. Im not trying to turn it into a race car or anything I just think a few things could be tweaked or upgraded for me to have a better driving experience. My civic drives well for the most part but there are times when I need( or want) to step on the gas. My car doesn't respond the way I'd like it to and it makes an awful sound. No, there's nothing wrong with the car just the fact that its just a 4 cylinder and only 140 horses or what not. So I did some research and I came across cold air intakes. From what ive read it would seem like it would give me a little more punch and a nice whisper. But I wouldn't know for sure since Ive never seen one. If I were to buy one would it help my civic accelerate and give it a nicer sound, or would I not notice anything since my car isn't very powerful. And if a cold air intake isn't the answer, are there any other relatively inexpensive mods out there for what I'd like? Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for any answers.

Performance costs money. You can make any car fast if you want to spend the money to do so. A cold air intake by itself will not do you much good. It will cost you $200 and might maybe give you an extra 3-5 horsepower. Nothing you would notice or feel. You could get a full exhaust system from the header back for $1000 and that might give you another 8-10 horsepower. Again...nothing that you would notice. You could put a simple turbocharger on the car for around $3500 and without an intercooler could run about 6psi of boost max which would bump up your power to around 175-190hp. You would notice that, but that is a lot of money to gain so little power.

    ****EDIT****

Bikedog obviously does not know much about cars since he is telling you to get a light weight driveshaft and to port the "heads" for your Civic. I'm not going into detail about that, but anybody who actually knows cars will see the huge flaws in those statements.

Ok these people know nothing about Honda's. Installing a turbo is difficult work and i suggest Professional installation. Honda motors are built great and can run 10 pounds of boost all day with no problems. I have a stock d16y8 with a turbo setup running 10 pounds for about 50,000 miles and have had zero problems. The only thing you need to make sure of is you get a good tune or you will have problems. And another thing is i got an ebay set up! People who complain about ebay setups do not know how to tune or install turbos cause they work great. I hit full boost at about 4500 rpms and and have no boost creep or leak or anything. And it will not cost you 3000$, i got mine professionally done for 2 grand which includes the turbo kit with everything( intercooler wastgate blow off valve) and he custom welded the inter coolerping to fit perfectly, and put in 450cc injectors, boost controller and gauge for 2 grand! Depending on where you live i would get it done Professionaly

    let's see here...

K&N cold air intake, ecu tuning, decent exhaust system, custom ground cam, heavier valve springs, light flywheel, lighter driveshaft, turbo/supercharger, too much stuff to list!

if you want to go all in, you can have the block and heads machined down for greater compression and the intake and exhaust can be ported and polished for better airflow in and out of the engine cylinders!

trust me spend 3500-4k for a acura tl type s motor and swap it in and keep it stock

you wouldnt have to worry about any performance because you would be producing

    260hp 240tq

2700 curb weight with that power you be running 13 sec all day
