why would my husband who owns a huge shed want to rent a storage unit for $60.00 a month?

He says that he wants to store items to be donated and things to sell at a yearly yard sale he would have at the unit. Does this make sense to you?

That is around $700.00 a year to store donatable and yard sale items.

Update:

Edit: Ha! Dexter

Update 2:

He already has a motorcycle and a four wheeler and pontoon boats etc...

The shed we own is approximately 40'X80' and is big enough for 2 RV's and more. The ceiling is about 50 feet high and storage could be built inside of this humongous shed. He does store a lot of stuff but he could just donate the stuff to salvation Army. The shed is waterproof but not mouse proof. It could be made to be more mouse proof though. It would be cheaper than $700.00 a year.

It seems like a waste of money to me. If he will not allow you to have a key or go to the shed then yeah I would think he was up to something. If you are allowed to have a key and go there anytime you want then I'd say he just likes wasting money.

As far as donatable items go ahead and donate them when you want to get rid of them. Why store them for months to a year before you donate them. Just gives them time to corrode.

Do you have a huge yard sale every year? Do you buy that much stuff yearly that you have enough to sell every year? To me yard sales are not worth the time and trouble.

If it were my husband and he owned a huge shed already and it wasn't full I would question his intentions. I would also suggest that he just buy a second storage shed somewhere like Lowe's.

You can get the really huge ones for $2000 and the smaller ones for around $500. That is less than he will pay in rent for one year.

Actually.. there is a trick you might want to look into. One of my local storage places runs a promotion in which you get the first month FREE, and after that, you must pay. Their strategy is to get you moved in, and once it, you will get lazy and NOT leave before the month is up, and then they have you for a customer. Even without that deal, I think they generally go for a month to month basis. They are NOT cheap.

Has he also purchased a large wooden Pine box lately or maybe an extra large deep freeze? If he has then you may be married to a Serial Killer.

Good luck and sleep well :0)

Seriously though - If he has any office files or cardboard boxes that need to be properly preserved, then he needs a storage warehouse.

  • well, is the shed weatherproof? will it get humid and cause clothing or materials to get moldy or rust or something like that? if the stuff he's storing may be ruined, than climate controlled storage makes perfect sense. if that's not the issue, than he probably wants to use his shed for dead bodies or something awful and needs to move the junk outta there.

Yea, that doesn't seem rational at all.

How much is he donating/selling at yard sale each year if he needs to rent a storage unit????

Why don't you ask him or go to the shed and see for yourself? His answer does not make sense. Sounds like he is hiding something!

(Guess you are entitled to $60/mo to do with as you wish)

It is his space and he doesn't want you going in there and moving HIS stuff around where he can't find it. It is your stuff so get your own shed.

he just don't want to store that stuff in his shed i would guess he is out there doing projects. I would not want stuff i don't need sitting around the garage

this is completely unreasonable. he has to give you a better reason than this for spending 700.00.

i agree that this most likely means he bought a motorcycle and doesnt want you to know about it
