I am heading to Rome. Is there something special I need to know about it?

I am aware of the usual documents and stuff but is there something special I should know? Like, any nearby places I should not miss, anything I should be careful about... any currency that I should carry with me how much etc. Any suggestions?

Euro is the only currency you will need in Europe now. As for where to go and what to see, Rome is extremely nice and there are many things to see. As a minimum go see the vatican, the arena and the areas around there. You can take the underground (subway) to most places, walking once you get to the area. There are buses that also take you around to all the popular sites, tickets are sold at most paperstands and bars. Try to avoid taxies as they are expensive. You should by a guide book that has a map in it. For eating, if you want to spend less, go a few streets off the main path and the price will drop about 50%. Good luck and have fun.
