Does it sound like I have strep throat?

Two days ago my throat hurt a bit and I could tell I was going to get sick. The next day it hurt to swallow, but I could still eat food. Last night I was unable to sleep because of the pain caused by swallowing, and because swallowing was necessitated by large amounts of saliva and mucus. Now today is even worse.

I do not feel as though I have a fever. My throat is swollen shut and my neck is huge and tender. My lymph nodes have ballooned in size. I do not feel particularly weak except for my sore neck and my lack of sleep. I do not feel as though hard food is really an option for me right now and I have a lot of pain swallowing just about everything. My saliva and mucus production are on high gear. Still, my nose remains relatively unclogged and it is what I am breathing through because of the lack of room in my throat.

Update:

I do still have my tonsils.

Also I am not coughing hardly at all.

Could be strep or your tonsils acting up if you have them. Sounds like you are very uncomfortable right now, so if you can get to an urgent care office, that would be the wisest thing to do. Until you can go, if you have no allergies to honey, try honey in hot water to help relieve the pain in your throat. Honey is a natural antibiotic and may help you out in that area. Tylenol, if you can take it, may help to reduce the swelling if it's from inflammation. Ibuprofen is an option if you can't take Tylenol, but stay away from aspirin unless a doctor tells you that it's okay to use. Feel better soon.

As a member said earlier, the diagnostic for strep is a swab. There are different streps (A, C, G...). We treat 2 types only. Sometimes, throats are very painful with mucus and swollen tonsills but it is viral. That is why a swab is made. To ensure we do not give antibiotics for nothing. If you have strep A tonsillitis and it remains untreated, it can lead to Acute Rheumatism and even heart valve (mitral) disease. I recommend you visit a physician... Good luck

Yes, it does sound like you have strep throat. Some of the strep throat symptoms you already have definitely sound like strep throat, more may come over the days. You got your sore throat very suddenly, the throat swelling is a obvious symptom and lymph nodes usually happen to, also the pain when you swallow. The only symptoms you are missing are the temperatures over 101 and white or yellow spots in the back of your throat. I recommend that you go to your doctor. They will take a swab of your throat and test it. It may be painful if your throat is swelling that badly, but it is worth it so the doctors could give you antibiotics. I hope you feel well soon and eat lots of ice cream!!!! It will somewhat take the pain away =D

Yeah if you still have your tonsils that could be it. If you do check to see if you have little puss pockets on your toonsils thats a tell tale sign of strep/tonsilitis
