ADULTS only question: Should "Homework Help" be abolished?
When I was in school, "homework help" meant LOOK IT UP YOURSELF.
Your thoughts on this?? Isn't that a form of basically "cheating"?
I was asking for *********ADULTS**********
ONLY RESPONSES. ADULT: OVER 21
No, homework help should not be abolished. The purpose of homework is to give children more practice, so if they don't understand something do you really just want them to sit there and get every answer wrong, no, help the child out.
MY EDIT ON THIS ANSWER: What kind of convoluted "logic" is this??? Again, that's why I specifically asked for ADULT posts only.

In short words, yes. Looking it up yourself means doing a Yahoo!, Google or Ask.com search, and not pestering people here. Granted, people need to be taught the newer ways to use a search engine, but still....how hard can it be to double-check your spelling and do it yourself?
Not to mention, the whole attitude really is "do it for me". Meaning the people who get Best Answers are the ones who just *hand them* the assignment basically. And some few people do get *disturbingly high* Best Answer Percentages just by doing this.
Whole thing's a scam when you consider what homework is supposed to do--it's supposed to teach the kids how to think and do it for themselves. The whole thing is a scam and frankly it makes Polls & Surveys look sweet and innocent. *____*
Maybe Yahoo! should *strip them* of all badges and treat them like dirt. They don't contribute, it's all cheating. It's all contributing to the delinquency of minors. All of it. *lol* =))))
Right. Sure. That'll happen.

Great question today! Personally, I don't answer homework questions, if I know it is one. The technology of today is vast and expansive, so homework research isn't as hard as it used to be (back in my day) but if the parents were there to help, that might be nice to do the search together, online or in books. I agree with so many answers here already and yes, maybe some cheated in all generations, but it is a bit easier to do it these days, such is the growth of technology and world wide connections. I may be difficult for the adults of this world to understand how kids communicate these days, it's apples and oranges from generation to generation. Ok, back to the question and off my pedestool of opinions, asking for help is one thing, guidance in how to find an answer is good, but getting the answer without any research, is just wrong, in my opinion, because if we really want to prepare our young adults for the real world, we need to teach them that the answers to any problems need to be found by us with our own opinions and knowledge!

Homework, also mentioned above, if not completely abolished should be reduced to a large amount, because the topics we learn at school, are the basic stuff we get for homework, if we didn't have homework, it would help the students in just reviewing the topics orally if not in writing format. It surely would help the students to relax a little more, and may be therefore, pay more attention in other classes.

It is kinda sad that in the time it took them to type the questions into yahoo answers they could have typed it into a search engine and found the answers on their own. I think it is the parent's responsibility to help their children and explain why it is so important they learn to do their own work. This is a free country and I don't think "abolishing" a resource that children "may" use is the answer either. Just like chastity belts aren't the answer to teenagers having sex.

There are way to give help with out giving the answer. I don't know if a person can do that online though.
Pretty much if your have the time and patience to log on, ask a question and wait for an answer, you have more than enough time to look that shite up.

Yes, and the sooner the better. If "children" today feel that they're entitled to EVERYTHING, including good grades that they don't garner on their OWN merit, you're right, they're cheating.
Of course, that's how 'my generation' decided to raise it's useless children. And I place ALL the blame on the lack of proper parenting and the MEDIA. Both are 50/50 to blame for the lack of success in our children.
The "dumbing down" of America is BACK, and strong as ever. You see, the government NEEDS stupid people to perform the undesirable tasks that make society fit for living. If you need ANY proof of this, just catch a couple episodes of "Dirty Jobs"..................
