I work with animals.. and love it! ..but at the end of the day, I just want to relax... ?

How do I respond in this situation...?

A friend came by to stop for a chat... all she did was non-stop talk about her cat... "Ohh shes so cute.. but she had an operation.. she's been straining to go to the toilet lately... so I put her in her litter box, but she didn't do anything.. I was thinking that maybe she wanted to go outside and do it.. but with her operation she wasn't meant to... then the vet gave her some laxatives and I took her home... she was still straining.. eventually I let her outside and she went off...she came back I don't know where outside she does her business outside though....so I'm not sure what she did."

yes I work in a vet clinic.. but at the end of the day i do not want to hear about how your cat struggled to do poos and wees! I simply don't. I'm interested in people's lives just as much.. if not more!!

Am I doomed to get these kind of conversations for the rest of my life?

Anyone who is an educated expert of anything, be it in the medical field, animals, psychology, you name it, will get people bugging them nonstop about things related to their field. It can be considered a form of flattery for sure, but I can definitely see how it could get irritating.

Can you try to branch out maybe and hang out with different people, and not really talk about animals or your job while they are getting to know you? I think getting to know people through things like community service or church or the gym or other activities like yoga will help them define you less by your job and more by your personality.

If your dear friends keep irritating you, you could kind of make a joke about it the next time they go off on a "my puppy's got this and this and this" spiel. You could say "Sorry to hear that, did you talk to your vet? Cause I don't really have any advice for you! I see so many animals during the day that my brain just goes into a completely different mode when I'm home. So how about the Clippers????" haha or something like that. Good luck!

After a good relaxing shower, I retreat to my office-study and do some Bible reading and in-depth study, then I get on Y!A for 3 - 4 hrs til about 2:00 AM Then I go to bed ( I sleep in my recliner) and try to catch 40 *winks*

Ah well probably. People seem to have this mentality that "well you work there so you must love this stuff and want to sleep eat and breathe it, oh and you no everything so can you diagnose my dog without even looking at it for me?" perhaps some people just don't have anything else to talk about so they pounce on a subject that they think will interest you and run with it.
