It is cold and it gets dark fairly early (around 5 pm). The water and the falls still flow and don't freeze. And the city puts up Christmas light displays of different characters and scenes which are nice to look at.

Niagara Falls is completely different in the winter than it is in the summer. If it is a "normal" winter, their is lots of ice around the falls. At night the lights are reflected by the ice and it is a different view than in summer. The river continues to flow, though the flow rate is lower than it is in summer. The number of tourists is a lot lower.

besides all the typical winter stuff Niagara Falls near Christmas is completely done up! The light display is amazing and has something like a million lights in it! :D
