How Long Should I Take a Break?
I've been running actively since June preparing for cross country. My peak mileage per week was about 50 but my average during the season was probably 40. I only ran the 5k this year and my PR is 16:08 (I was sick, I can do a lot better).
Now that the season finished last Saturday, how long should I stop running until I do base training? I heard that taking a 10 day break in between each season helps prevent injury. Should I take a break? Should I keep running but only go about 20 miles this week?

yes, it is definitely good to take a break. usually around 1-2 weeks of nothing or even just slow 30 min runs each day will helps your muscles recover from the season. this helps prevent injury and will make you fresher and more ready to run in the offseason. and wow 16:08 is awesome!!

I have heard that you shouldn't take more than 10 days off, but a small break could be good for you. Either take a week off or just go really easy on yourself for little while.
