should I give a refund if...?
A friend asked me to do a shopping cart site but then 2 week into it she backed out claiming that it wasn't working out for her. I did my best and put allot of time into it but she just didn't like it. She said she wanted a partial refund of the deposit.
I don't think this is fair since i already put my time into it and while I was designing and working on it she told me she liked the way it was turning out. then she flips the script and does not want it anymore. But I think it has everything to do with $$$ and her lack of it.
what do you think?

Well, if you give her a partial refund and she gets no code, I think that's acceptable. I mean, she is your friend after all, and unless you had some kind of legally binding contract going on I think that's a meritable compromise.

It depends on which is more important. The money or your friendship. If her friendship is important then you give her a partial refund and chock it up to experience.
Friendship aside, I think it is very reasonable for you to refuse the refund. Had she paid you in full, I think you should give her a refund, but she only paid a deposit and that's the whole point of a deposit.

Give her a partial refund but keep some for the work you put into it. Your time is worth money too.

well as i see it a deposit is the amount of money you put down to secure and ensure the work is being performed ..it is pretty commonly accepted that deposits are never refunded. Thats the point of them.
