Is it Syllabub or Wassail?

Alton Brown did did a very nice piece on how to make a wassail. However a wassail has wine, honey, water, citrus, cinnamon, and cloves. A Syllabub has a cider or wine, sugar, citrus, and milk, along with beaten egg whites and such. Did he do enough research?

I'm not sure if Alton is right or not, but you have to consider that their might be many different recipes for Wassail (think of how many recipes their are for fried chicken). But I looked up syllabub and the picture and description seems more like a cream mousse dessert than a drink. So I don't think he is confusing syllabub with wassail. But hey what do I know? lol.

Syllabub is a traditional English dessert, popular from the sixteenth to the nineteenth century. It is usually made from rich milk or cream seasoned with sugar and lightly curdled with wine[2] or cider.[3] Traditionally a bowl containing 'Sille,' a wine that used to be made in Sillery, in France's Champagne region, was placed under a cow's udder and milked directly into it.[4] 'Bub' was Elizabethan slang for a bubbling drink.[5]

The general ingredients are whipped cream, whipped egg white (absent since the introduction of electric mixers), lemon juice, lemon zest, sugar, nutmeg and an alcohol.[6]. Mrs Beeton (1861) gives two recipes.[7] One author's recipe says to mix the other ingredients together in a large bowl, "place the bowl under the cow, and milk it full."[8]

Since you think Obama is the best person in the world to handle the world's economy and better able to conduct our war than all of our generals, then Obama is the very person to tell you the answer to this question, my friend.

    What do you think?
