Is there anyway I can block someone's number from calling my landline phone?

First call your landline provider and find out if they can block the number.

If your provider is unable to block numbers do not fear there are ways to get rid of annoying callers.

    1. The silent caller

There are different types of obscene calls. The first is where the caller says nothing at all, but you can hear them on the line. Here’s what you do. Wait a few seconds, and then say "Hello" just once more. Act calm. The caller is simply attempting to get a rise out of you. If the person continues to just hold the line, wait a few more seconds and then very calmly and quietly hang up the phone.

    2. The heavy breather

If the caller breathes heavily into the phone, do not even go as far as saying "Hello" a second time. Even if you think that it’s a friend of yours playing a joke, just calmly hang up the phone as described above. By doing so, there is a high probability that the call will not repeat itself.

    3. The curious caller

This is the caller who wants to know what you are doing, what you are wearing, etc. The language is not explicit, simply suggestive. Hang up at once. Resist the temptation to say, "Who is this?" or threaten any type of legal action. The less you engage Mr. Curious, the better.

    4. The lonely guy

This is the caller who is more ambiguous. Their banter is less suggestive. They are just looking for someone to talk to. Politely hang up. You are not a Lonely Hearts Club. The lonely guy is sometimes the most dangerous kind of caller. He can pry out personal information that you should not be giving to a stranger. Don’t be sucked in.

    5. The repeat caller

If any of the above scenarios repeat themselves in a second call, don't answer on the first ring. This shows that you were waiting by the phone, which could be part of what the caller is getting a kick out of. And don't just let the call go to voice mail. Wait for the fourth ring just before voice mail would pick up, and answer with a calm "Hello." Follow the above steps if it is obviously the same caller who has called back.

    6. The potty mouth

Some obscene callers come with one speed: full-tilt dirty. If an unknown caller says something that is extremely obscene, resist the temptation to respond in any way. Just follow the above steps. Now, if you are the sort of person who would normally say, "My word, good man, I should wash your mouth out with toilet bowl cleaner!" please avoid the temptation. Just follow the above steps exactly.

    7. The tough guy

Some of these telephone Romeos are more about flaunting their virility than wooing you with the eloquence of their profanity. If the caller makes specific threats of any type, then you need to handle the call differently. Continue to follow the advice in the steps above. However, write down anything that the person says. Don't embellish. If the person calls back again, consider allowing the call to go to voice mail. If the caller is stupid or drunk enough to leave a message, that of course is something that could be played for the police. In the case of threatening phone calls, you'll have to use your best judgment. If you have reason to believe that the caller can and would follow through on any threats, simply call the police.

You can call your phone service company and tell them the situation. They may be able to blacklist the number but many times they wont. Just tell them the story and hope for the best.
