How to train a male puppy to only pee outside?
On Saturday, I got an 8 week old male lab puppy. I have 2 females dog in the house. He knows to go outside to pee and poop, but he seems to deliberately pee in the house a million times a day, in addition to going outside. Its like he's "marking", but I don't know if he's too young to do that, and if that's the case, how do I stop it?
I am with him all day. He's definitely marking, because i watched him outside earlier. He was busy playing, and all of a sudden he got up and ran to where he likes to pee, and he did. But, then he goes in the house, and does these little puddles all over. The house is open to the backyard, he has full access to go outside whenever he wants.
I take him out 3 or 4 times each night, he is sleeping in his crate. When he wakes up, he cries, I pick him up and take him outside. He pees or poops, and back in he goes.
He's eating 3 meals a day, at same time each day. We live in florida, so the weather is warm, the house is open. We go in and out hundreds of times each day. He is able to come and go as he likes, and I am sure to take him out after eating, sleeping, etc. He almost always pees when I take him outside...
But, he'll be playing with one of my other dogs, and then he just stops and does a little bit. Just enough that I have to clean it up...
We have tile floors, so its not a crisis, just annoying, and I want to keep it from progressing...

At 8 weeks old theres no possible way for him to be fully house trained and you should expect accident for months to come. He does not have very much control of his bladder and you need to be taking him out every hour to get him house trained. He's not marking, he's still too young. You need to get a constant routine with him. After eating take him out, after napping take him out, after playing take him out, and throughout the day he will probably have to be taken out about every hour since he's so young, also I assume that you're getting up to take him out at night? At this age its impossible to hold it all through the night. Its a lot of work but as long as you praise a lot when he goes outside and correct, only when you catch him in the act inside (by making a loud noise to startle him and make him stop then running him out), before you know he will catch on. My labs 3 months and he's doing so well, we're so proud, when on schedule we have no accidents, if we slip up we'll have maybe one or two but thats nothing compared to the 4 or 5 we had when he first came home.
Finally, make sure you're cleaning your house (or where he's soiled) with an enzyme cleaner for pets, which you can get at a pet store, thats the only cleaner that will fully get rid of the scent so it doesn't keep attracting your dog.
Good luck!

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aNDsq
A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

8 weeks is a little young to expect a puppy (esp male) to only pee outside. My 4 month old puppy still has accidents in my home. I'm lucky, I am not taking any subbing jobs (teaching) so I've been home all the time. Puppies can't hold a lot in their bladders and the urinate frequently. I would being to crate train him but only leave him in it over night. (Let him spend some time in it after vigorous play when he is more apt to sleep. Make it a snuggly place to be. Work up to all night long. Be really patient, don't hit at all, when you're home take him out frequently--15 minutes after eating or drinking, after naps, etc.,) Make sure your dog gets A LOT of praise and say the word potty while he is doing his business outside. You could also treat him if you see him go outside, but still "make all over him" when he does what you want him to do. I would say you can probably house-train your puppy younger than mine if you are diligent about taking him outside and giving enough time to pee, etc.
* If you buy a puppy, buy from a responsible breeder who has already started potty training.
* Crate or confine your puppy when you can't watch him—always. Train other family members to do the same.
* If you feed your puppy a commercial dog food, feed dry food. It will keep his stools more solid.
* Confine your puppy to rooms with tile or other washable flooring so mistakes don't ruin carpets.
* Keep your puppy on a schedule. Feed him at the same time every day, and try to get up and go to bed close to the same time every day while he's being potty trained.
* Puppies need lots of water, especially if they eat dry dog food. However, while you're potty training, feed your pup at least four hours before bedtime, and remove his water two hours before bedtime.
* Take your puppy to potty after every meal as well as the first thing in the morning, the last thing at night, every time he wakes up from a nap, after an active play session, and in the wee hours of the morning if you hear him moving around. Take him on a leash to the place you want him to use—that will teach him to use that spot, and also teach him that he can go even on leash with you standing right there. That can be important if you're away from home.
* When you take your puppy to potty, don't play with him until after he does his business. If he doesn't go within 10 minutes, put him in his crate for 10 to 15 minutes, then take him to potty again. When he potties, praise him and reward him with a treat or short playtime. Wait a few minutes before you take him in—sometimes puppies don't finish on the first try, so give him time to be sure he won't have to go again in three minutes.
* Keep your puppy's potty place clean—pick up feces every day. You don't like to step in it, and neither does he.
* If you don't have the time or patience to potty train a puppy, then adopt or buy an older puppy or adult dog that is already potty trained.

An 8 wk. old puppy has to go frequently. When we had our Collie/Keeshond puppy he went out every time he started sniffing the floor which was about every 1-1 1/2 hrs. Don't think he's marking yet, seems a bit young.

My cousin has a catahoula and he was so stubborn..lol. To get him to go outside we would wait till he pee, then praised him with treats and affectionn. But that never worked, so what she did was took a warm wet rag outside and wipped it on his hoo hoo. That gave him the sensationn to pee. So that's another way to help when nothing else works. Hope I helped =D

If he pees in the house put him right out side and put a word like pee pee or potty. Take him out ever hour or so and if he pees say the word and treat him. but what you said it sounds to me he is showing his dominance or just marking his territory.

If you want to teach the puppy to pee in the bathroom first you should do the same thing in front of him.
