How to deal with unethical activities?

Our society is supported by the legal system that strives to ensure presence of certain moral and ethical standards. There are times when people - members of our society - decide to take immoral and unethical course of action that is legal.

What are the means and methods that the rest of us - who are members of the same society - have to respond and / or stop the immoral / unethical activities?

    Morality should be taught in the home. If a licensed person is unethical, there are government bodies to address that.

    There are four options to dealing with unethical behavior that is legal.

    - Ignor it. This may be the safest option, but it may cause you some some sleepless nights, esp if you cannot turn off your conscience.

    - Fight it. This takes courage, and may be costly to your career or personal life.

    - Get a group together to fight it. Not as risky as fighting it alone, but you might not get any takers based on whether you can persuade others to join you.

    - Leave the situation. Sometimes flight may be the only option available.

    Everyone has to decide what is the best course of action for them. Again, we are not talking about illegal behavior for which society has a remedy, but unethical behavior which society has decided to put the weight on the individual to decide how to respond.

    Is this manager the owner of the funeral home or just a manager hired by the owners? If he is only the hired help, go over his head and contact the owners. If this continues and you were aware of it, you will eventually get in trouble and get fired. Either way, there is a risk of losing your job. You just need to decide what's more important to you at this point in your life, (depending upon your personal life, financial etc.). I recommend you document every threat and instruction this person has made to you and the rest of the employees. If he is the owner or the owners don't care to address this issue, contact the Better Business Bureau, as well as your state's Consumer Affairs/Business Affairs (not really sure which government department). Also, if you are uncomfortable and not sure, you can always speak with an attorney, (legal aid). Good Luck and let us know what happens.

    One wise man said;

    "The foundations of our society and our government rest so much on the teaching of the Bible that it would be difficult to support them if faith in these teaching would cease to be practically universal in our country."

    Sorry to say, our country has forgotten the only rule book !

    There is no right or wrong in today's world, except for the few Christian's left. Obama said that America was not a Christian nation. I guess everyone has agreed and will follow Obama teachings.

    I find that the best way to deal with unethical people is to be an example of positive ethical behavior. It will not often be within your scope of authority to prevent or end unethical behavior in others. In such circumstances, it may be best to limit contact with such people.
