Did George Bush announce that there was going to be a surge in Iraq?

I am curious. Did George Bush announce on national television when we were going to be sending more troops to Iraq, when we sent the surge of troops there?

If he didn't do think that he should have or do you think that surprising them was a better idea?

I mean for the successfullness of the endeavor.

I personally think that last night was just a little grandstanding and that our troops will end up paying for it.

Update:

I am seeing answers that say he did. I didnt remember, thanks for the reminder.

Did he say when he would send them? I cant remember that either.

I believe he did and the liberal naysayers said it wouldn't work much like they are now. They failed to acknowledge that it did indeed work and violence dropped significantly in Iraq. Soon after Obama pulled combat troops out of the urban areas, violence again began to rise.

Steve: You must be listening to left wing "experts" All others said the the surge was indeed a success because more troops meant more areas to cover a less places for the enemy to hide. The money helped too but it alone did not slow the violence.

EW. Why do libs bring up the Soviet argument? What the Soviet Union tried to do and what we are trying to do is totally different. In addition, the soviets lost because they forced conscripts to fight in the war. Guys with little training and even less morale. Add to the fact that the US gave the resistance all kinds of help from weapons to intel and the Soviets stood little chance. No major superpower is helping the Taliban now except maybe the liberal leadership who wants to cut and run.

Yes, Bush announced a "troop surge" in Iraq, which was and is an escalation of the war.

They don't like to use the word "escalation," even though that's what it really is.

Our politicians blithely ignore the fact that the USSR invaded Afghanistan, and expended huge amounts of money and lives, and still got kicked out of there after almost ten years of fighting, and at a cost of about 1,000,000 Afghan lives.

What makes Obama think that the USA can do any better?

    It's another Viet Nam.

As a matter of fact, Bush did announce on national television his plans for the surge.

    yes...

it would be hard to "surprise" anyone with thousands of troops...

people would probably notice when their husbands were leaving, yet none were coming back to the base...
