If I kill an enemy in combat and have their I.D. Should I contact their family or not.?

In 1989,while serving in Panama in "Operation Just Cause" I killed a P.D.F. soldier who was engaged with my unit. While I have no regrets for engaging this fighter in direct combat,I have a problem in that I

obtained his I.D. later on. Should I in the course of time...get in contact with this man's surviving family,or should I put it down to "that's the way it Is?"

No flippant inquiries. I think about it every day. War IS war...but a family should know what happened to their loved ones. It has been twenty years,we are still finding soldiers from Vietnam,Russia,Germany,Korea,..on and on. Have talked with family for years and years. I also

served in S.America and Gulf War 1. For the next 50 years, we will be talking. But,for this one action I need some help. PLEASE,no stupid jokes nor ignorant rants. Unless you have been there, I need opinions that have cogent remarks.

Our histories will be written in the next 20-30 years like the WWII vets were in the 1980's and 1990's.

For some reason I find this full of ****. BUT since this guy has been dead for 20 years I would assume his family already knows. Therefore I would leave it alone because you would only cause more damage by contacting them. I am sure the last thing they would like to hear is the voice of their son, nephew, grandchild or w/e's murderer.

I understand why you feel you have an obligation left undone. I do not know what the us governments policy is on such a thing. However placing the ID tag and a description of where and what happened in the correct hands, weather that be a us official or some member of the family would help take the pressure off of you. Give you some closure and help you feel more justified that you did the right thing. If you do decide to contact the family i would suggest anonymously

It would speak volumes of your character if you were to contact this young man's family. I would really encourage you to do it. It could offer you a little insight into why the PDFs were fighting you.

    Good luck! And thank you!

    I think you should.

Maybe not you yourself. Maybe you should have a friend contact them first so they don't like try to kill you or something. Just an idea

Find out your legal position with the military before you do something which might turn out to be against the regulations. You may no longer be a serving soldier, but that might not make any difference.

  • I think you should send it to them with an explanation, but not directly engage them. I think it would be helpful for the family to be able to move on and it sounds like it might give you a little peace too. Just give them the straight facts and let them know that you just wanted them to know what happened to him and that you thought it was right that they should have his ID.

because of the fact that is basically too humorous... human beings pretending they could stand without God (the existence giver). or people who think of they're God. He has the remarkable to take existence after coming up it, and He has each and every remarkable to snigger as He does it. are you going to rebuke God? are you going to cajole Him he's incorrect to do something? what's incorrect with humanity? the sole time we ever snigger is as quickly as we are insulting one yet another or our God. His laughter is righteous. our laughter is deplorable. and you're incorrect on your premise. God laughs over a lot greater advantageous than the destruction of the wicked. the completed of the Bible is a decision to rejoice, because of the fact God has conquer this international and stored us from it in the approach. the final e book in the Bible is the place you will hear the excitement of heaven. Psalm 147:11 the LORD delights in people who worry him, who positioned their wish in his unfailing love. delight (v) - to thrill a great deal or to teach delight and excitement (in),

i personally doudt its a good idea, maybe you tell the relatives, you track them down right... well if you found them, they can find you, and you have no idea if they intend to "repay" you for your actions in war... so ny answer is no
