why dont we limit trade from china?

put tarriffs in place to make it more profitable to manufacture here in usa?

even though we owe china a lot. we can work the problem with them.

maybe obama can print up money to pay them back? they dont seem to

have a problem with printing it up for other reasons!

LOL....For our currency to mean anything it has to be backed by something...We cant do it with gold because we only have 800Billion worth...So the money we're printing is backed by Chinese currency....That's why we owe china because technically these dollars that are being printed is Chinese currency...Kinda hard to pay them back with their own money...

Its the way the nation is currently set up. For the most part the nation right now is the middleman. and the place where ideas are engineered, and educated. There are also some farm production that leads part of the economy. For several years the US has been trying to open up trade to the world, china included. I.E. Globalization. That means we can get products from several places, and buy it cheaper at home. It is cheaper to manufacture in china so we get a lot of stuff from there.

Here in the U.S. we want to sell products to the world. We want to sell products to china. If the US creates a movie, and it is seen in china, and say half the country watches the movie, and pays one dollar to see it, the movie has grossed at least 500 million dollars. So we want to ll stuff there. That is why we don't want to put more tariffs in place.

On a side note, to address why obama doesn't want to create more money is because that would weaken the dollar so the previous example would gross the us 450 million, as the dollar would be worth less.

Why don't you want to limit trade with Canada and Mexico ?

We import almost as much from them as we do China.

People want to say the US does not manufacture anymore.

    But thats a myth.

The US is the leading manufacturing country in the world.

We manufacture 27% of all manufactured goods mad in the world.

The US manufactures 40% more than the 2nd largest manufacturing country, China.

Why we do not place tariffs ?

because the US is one of the largest exporting countries in the world

And if we start placing tariffs, then the countries we export to, will start placing tariffs.

So for every job you gain, you will lose a export based job.

Because if America limits trades from China, then all Amercians will suffer for having to spend more to live.

And China will react by limiting trade from U.S., then American farmers will lose their jobs (America sells a lot of crops and fruits to China). Then price of crops and fruits in China will raise, too.

In the end, both country suffer.

Then if you simply print money, the dolar will flow the market and lose its value, it depreciates. People around the world will start to exchange dolar for other currencies beacuse they realize dolar is losing value. Then not only you have to pay more for Chinese-made product, but you have to pay more for European stuff, Australian stuff, South American stuff, and anything that's not American-made.

Then you end up in a country where you pay 100 billion for a meal.

That would be the end of the world.

We absolutely should put tariffs on Chinese goods. Not only on Chinese goods though, we need import taxes on goods from all nations that have lower labor cost and that allow companies to pass the cost of externalities to their people. Many people however oppose this for reasons that are incomprehensible to me. They say that that is protectionism and that we will go broke. Well I say we are already broke and it is that lack of tariffs that brought here not the other way around. We have a $1.2 trillion trade deficit and that is why we are going broke and mainly the cause of our $11 trillion in debt(the other cause of this are tax cuts and war)!

We already do have tarriffs on goods from China. There was a little uproar a while back about a tarriff we have on Chinese made tires. Many imported goods are already tarriffed.

Bill M is half right, democrat president and republican congress. This is by far a better set up than republican congress and president or democrat president and congress. Our country needs one party controlling one position and the other party controlling the other position. Checks and balances, what we did not have the first 6 years of the bush regime.

US Government makes billions off import taxes from China

    Walmart would go under.

We are so used to people working for $1 a day for us and would rather watch the country fail than spend a competitive American wage for home made goods.

The GOP's plan was to get Americans to work for $1 a day.

Yeah right, watch the crime statistics.

would be easier if Americans just quit buying stuff made in China.

Why do people think they need the government to force them to do the right thing?
