Should the Boy Scouts be sued for picking up litter?
Boy Scout Troop 301 of Allentown, PA took it on themselves to clear all the trash from a 1,000 foot length of a hiking trail in the city park.
The SEIU (Service Employees International Union) have filed a grievance and are going to sue the Scouts for picking up litter for free - claiming that the city should have forbidden them from doing so, and instead hired SEIU union members to do the litter patrol.
SEIU's Nick Balzano asserted that "there is to be no volunteers! We'll also be looking into the Cub Scout or Boy Scout who did the trails. We may file another grievance on them." He gave the Allentown city council, the Boy Scouts and all potential volunteers an iron-fisted ultimatum: "None of them can pick up a can. They can't pick up a butt. They can't plant a flower. They can't clear a bicycle path. They can't do anything. Our people do that."

NO, but they should be sued for discrimination and promoting hatred and ignorance. (Re atheists and gay persons)
Realize, this was one person speaking. He has since resigned. So he was not representing the true feelings of the union.
The people who should be sued are the people who allowed them to do it.
Maybe folks don't understand that people need jobs and something like this takes food out of the mouths of children.

If I were a part of that boy scout troop I would make a point of cleaning every single piece of public land I could get too.

Anyone who attacks the Boy Scouts has got a screw loose. They're the greatest youth organization in the history of mankind.

I agree with Drixnot. Why would they be sued for cleaning the environment? That's stupid! What, do they want the world to rot in its own filth? Someone needs to tell them that they're completely stupid and should be glad that the Boys Scouts care enough about the Earth to clean it.

I think it's pretty sick that a bunch of kids tried to help out and some pricks sue them for it. Even if it was a dick move, like they destroyed a movie set or something they're still kids trying to do something helpful so I don't think it's on at all.
