you need anti biotic penicillin or amoxicillin , these will help with the swelling, which is the root cause of your pain, you might also try a heating pad on the side of you face where your abscess is. this will help to concentrate the infection to one area so the anti biotic can hit the area hard. you might also try a prescription dose of ib profin/ motrin the typical dose is 800mg every 6-8 hours. once the inflammation is down the pain will ware off a little. so that hopefully the painkillers can work

WARM SALT WATER RINSE WITH WARM SALT WATER AS MANY TIMES AS YOU CAN. THIS WILL HELP REDUCE THE INFECTION. AND, CALL THE DENTIST AND ASK HIM FOR A PRESCRIPTION FOR ANTIBIOTICS - THIS WILL CERTAINLY HELP REDUCE THE PAIN TREMENDOUSLY. VERY SURPRISED THEY DID NOT GIVE THIS TO YOU, USUALLY YOU DON'T WALK OUT OF THE OFFICE WITH OUT A SCRIPT. BUT IF HE WON'T, FOR SOME STRANGE REASON, THEN WARM SALT WATER IS A SECOND ALTERNATIVE. IF THE DENTIST WILL NOT GIVE YOU ANTIBIOTIC, TRY CALLING YOUR FAMILY DOCTOR AND EXPLAIN THE SITUATION WITH THE SAT COMING UP AND MAYBE HE WILL HELP YOU OUT FOR A FEW DAYS. I HAD THIS AND THE PILLS DID WORK IN 24 HOURS. GOOD LUCK.
