I'm a bit confused about when chickens lay eggs..their conditions..etc..?

First off..I know that Factory-wise chickens are treated very poorly (in fact, that would be a major understatement..) I also know that, when hatched, male chicks are seen as "useless" and killed the same day they are hatched...but...My last piece of gathered information doesn't fit anywhere....Hens lay eggs..basically like a menstrual cycle..it just happens even if they have never been in contact with a rooster...so if they don't need their eggs to be fertilized in order for them to be "good" for us..why are chicks brought into the equation in the first place?

Is it because the people doing this to the hens make them lay fertilized eggs so they can get more hens...and just "throw away" the "useless" ones?

Can you clear this up for me?

Thanks in advance! :)

You have been reading a lot of propaganda. There is a shred of truth in it,but is wrong in many other ways.

First - not all male chicks are killed. They need roosters to fertilize eggs to make more chickens and some are raised for butchering so we have chicken meat.

Why do we need chicks? To make more chickens of course! A chicken only lays eggs for about 2 years (less in a commercial farm) depending on breed and health. After that, there is no reason to keep the hen around, so she is slaughtered.

If they didn't let some eggs fertilize and hatch, we would run out of chickens for any purpose in under 2 years.

No chicks and hens are "thrown away." They are all used somehow in the food chain. Whether used for human, animal food or fertilizer.

good question. while we supply human beings our eggs (from our hens, no longer layed by using us!) they say they style extra suitable and the yolk is darker, yet i do no longer know if that's as a results of the fact the nutrients regimen is diverse and our hens have grass and sunshine etc, or because of fact they are happier. i ask your self the type you're able to attempt that, good question!
