When you ask a question on baby names, do you thumbs up/down because...?

When you ask a question on baby names, for example "What do you think of the name ____?", and someone answers "I don't like it" for whatever reason.. Do you give them a thumbs down because they have a different opinion than you? Or do you give them a thumbs up because they were honest about it? Or do you not give them either?

I'm just bored and wondering :p I myself, don't give them TU or TD if they just say something plain and simple like "I don't like it." If they give a reason why they don't like it/I can tell they put at least a tad bit of effort into their answer, I will give them a TU. Then the only time I give a TD in this situation is if they are rude about it. [For example "Ew! That is a terrible name why would you wanna name you kid that?!!"] What about you?

BQ: Do you prefer the spelling Lily or Lilly? I like Lily :)

An answer like, "I don't like it", I wouldn't give them anything. Not a thumb up, nor a thumb down. They didn't put any exertion into their answer, it isn't detailed at all, therefore I don't believe they deserve a thumb up. But just because I might like the name the asker was asking about, and they feel differently, I'm not going to thumb them down because of that. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I believe.

I'll give them a thumb up if their answer is thorough (for example, instead of just saying "I don't like it", they could explain _why_ they don't like it), I'll give them a thumb down if their answer is downright rude, incorrect, or irrelevant (for example, if they say "what the heck?! why wuld u name ur kid dat, datz just gross!!!", "that's stupid", or "two points!" You know, idiotic answers).

Bonus question: Well, it depends. I prefer the name Lily if her proper name is Lily, I prefer Lilly if her proper name is Lillian / Lillia / Lillith / etc. Lily, overall.

Lily, the same way the name of the flower is spelled. It is a really pretty name.

I agree. I think other people's opinions are valid most of the time. I think you should at least tell why you don't like a name. I hate when people say "Eww thats sooooo awefull. Why not Bella?", no matter what the name suggested was. I don't usually ask questions but I thumbs down those kinds of answers and answers that are just rude.

I only put 'thumbs down' if the person is being rude or mean while answering. If they don't like it, then I don't care as long as they aren't rude about it. I agree with you.

I like Lilly, it's a beautiful name either way though.

I usually thumb down when they give a rude answer. Maybe one that is a different opinion to my own too lol. - but usually only when they are blunt about it for example if someone says wat you think of this name and someone says "it is aweful" and I think it is ok, I may thumb down then. Prob shouldn't do that though :P

And I love Lily... I just think it looks simple and pretty this way. Otherwise there is just too many Ls 3 out of 5 letters would be L lol.

I cant give Thumbs ups thumbs down on this account, but on my other one(it got suspended) i only gave TD to the trolls, or if they were rude

    Lily

  • Same as you :)

I don't see a reason to give them a thumbs down for being honest and I don't see a reason to give them a thumbs up if they don't explain

Lily, I don't think the extra L is necessary

I thumbs up everyone who answers my questions, they didn't have to, right?!

On other peoples questions, I only thumb down the ones who are obviously trolls or have appalling taste lol

LILY!! You know it makes sense!
