im not sure if a 60 watt basking lamp is enough becasue even with the lamp AND the heat mat, the hot side only gets to about 83 degrees. is that enough? if not, how can i get it to be hotter? should i get a 75 watt basking lamp instead?

You asked this before I believe...
Again
83 is fine, it all depends on the size of your tank, don't go too hot as you don't want to cook your leo, too hot and you can boil their insides and they will die, try a 75 you may not need the heating pad depending upon what substarte you use.

leopard geckos do not need a basking lamp since they are nocturnal but if you wish to get one use a 50 watt lamp. if i were you i would stick with heat mat. also 83 degrees is enough because winter has come and your geckos need to be reminded it is getting colder about 10 degrees(fahrenheit).
