Wow! Being obese is genetic !?
Are these the same scientists who tell us that concreting over gardens causes flooding ! I have friends who eat half my food intake and are twice my weight. If you get a sponge and drop it in cement it stops being porous! Who pays these scientists for stating the obvious.! Perhaps they should point out that building new airports does more damage to the globe than leaving on your 2 milli- amp standby light!! What do you think?

If obesity is genetic then I must have been adopted, everyone in my family is slim to underweight and I am a stone or so overweight, I don't eat junk food as I am a type 2 diabetic, diet controlled, My mum , sister, brother and daughter all eat double what I eat? As for the concrete gardens, they will be ok if you have drainage and the sponge stops being porous because its pores are clogged with the cement,? as for the airport, that will be needed because of future technology? - I never worry about statistics or science as there is more in life to worry about, as tomorrow I will drive my car to work and add cancerous fumes into the atmosphere from the exhaust but I need the car to get to work, which is better than being unemployed and saving the ozone level?

Yes of course being MORBIDLY obese is genetic. Every human will get fat to an extent if rubbish is eaten on an hourly basis. However to get to as much as 500-1000 pounds, you need to have a family history.
Survival of the fittest would have destroyed this genetic error, but with humans, that law does not apply because we do not eat our own as that is called cannibalism, and is "frowned upon" in most societies.

Scientific studies - even if they confirm pre-existing ideas that you think are obvious - should be praised. Our innate belief system is inherently flawed with logical fallacies, misinterpretations, mistaken observations, etc., and using the scientific method is the only reliable way to confirm or deny these ideas. There are TONS of things that people accepted as truth because they're just SO obvious - like that the earth is flat, or that the sun rotates around it. They were wrong. And while you happen to be right with this particular observation, that doesn't mean that these studies are wasteful.
We should apply scientific scrutiny to all of our beliefs.
