Do Evolutionists really believe that humans evolved from apes? Then what about...?

Neanderthal Man and Cro-Magnon Man? I thought **** sapiens evolved from them, not apes.

And why are there so many species of primates present today? Why didn't they evolve?

Update:

And why aren't there more Evolutionists hanging out in the Anthropology section? Can you dig it?

(Get it? "Dig" it!) :)

Update 2:

I respect your point of view, Purple Royalty, but I was really trying to find out more about how Evolutionists think.

Haven't gotten much but insults, so far.

Update 3:

neil s, you are the only one to make any sense fo far. Thank you.

Update 4:

Hmm. Some of these answers here are indeed ape-ish in nature. Quite more convincing than the actual content.

Update 5:

schmufler: :P

No, we did not evolve from apes. Why does everyone keep saying that?

Apes and humans evolved from a common ancestor, a very long time ago. There are numerous forms of primates today, as they evolved to fit into the evolutionary niches in which they lived. In the great scheme of things, there really aren't that many kinds of apes. Do you have any idea of how many kinds of beetles there are?!

BTW, Neanderthals are now thought to possibly be dead end, rather than a direct ancestor. There is evidence that the lived at the same time as Cro-Magnons, but were different enough that inter-breeding might have been problematic (or impossible).

What are you so afraid of that you ignore the truth?!!

Primates are mammals that include lemurs, monkeys, apes and humans.

The Strepsirrhini, or “wet-nosed” primates, which include lemurs and lorises, branched off around 63 million years ago.

Old World monkeys and apes divided from New World monkeys about 40 million years ago.

Aegyptopithecus zeuxis, which probably resembles the common ancestor of New World monkeys and apes, lived about 29 million years ago.

The apes split from Old World monkeys about 25 million years ago.

Humans and chimpanzees diverged 5-7 million years ago.

Of the macaque's nearly 3 billion DNA base pairs, 93.5 per cent are identical to those in the human genome. This is not unexpected for a species whose lineage diverged from our own about 25 million years ago. The human and chimp genomes, which diverged just 6 million years ago, are about 98 per cent identical.

One puzzling discovery is that several mutations that cause genetic diseases in humans - such as phenylketonuria and Sanfilippo syndrome, which lead to mental retardation - are the normal form in macaques and, presumably, our own ancestors.

So on each split the original got left behind to stay as it was!

The first true hominid has been shown to almost certainly arrived in the Great Rift Valley but as a product of evolving from it's monkey and ape ancestry!!

In many ways trying to deny these facts is worse than the creationinsts fantasies!!

Both show a desire to ignore the truth!!

    2. The chimps have not stopped evolving either!! You may be surprised to learn that 233 chimp genes, compared with only 154 human ones, have been changed by selection since chimps and humans split from their common ancestor about 6 million years ago!!

So why is it that you are at odds with the christian church? Do you not realise it sees your ideas as screwed and defamatory to christianity?!!

The Pope, Catholic Church, Church of England and mainstream churches all accept the big bang and evolution!!

Lord Carey the former Archbishop of Canterbury put it rather well – “Creationism is the fruit of a fundamentalist approach to scripture, ignoring scholarship and critical learning, and confusing different understandings of truth”!!

Nice that christians and atheists can agree and laugh together even if it is at your expense!!

Cro-magnons were humans. Neanderthals also were, arguably. But we, too, are apes, and don't you forget it. Just look at these bizarre hands.

This is a common misconception. All other primates did evolve, just not the same way as we did. Selection acted differently on them, favoring certain traits and discouraging others. In humans, selection favored such traits as large brains, bipedal locomotion, and diminished body hair. In gorillas, on the other hand, selection favored such features as large canines, "knuckle walking," and heavy musculature.

So we didn't evolve from chimps. Rather, we evolved 'with' chimps from a common ancestor.

They evolved from apes as well. They were more apelike than we were, but each successful evolution had more human-like characteristics.

And don't even through the multiple species of primates argument in there. You can't even argue that one. Man evolved because that's what was evolutionarily advantageous for his species. Gorillas, on the other hand, haven't evolved because their state as its known now is suitable for them to survive. Plus, there were probably multiple environmental factors acting upon early humans that don't or ever will affect different primates.

  • Because neanderthal man and cro-magnon man evolved from apes, which then evolved into **** sapiens.

  • I hope you're not serious.

    It could go like

some form of ape --> other ape --> even closer to human --> crow magnon --> **** sapiens

Speciation is basically creating branches, so we might go like

some form of ape --> other ape --> even closer to human --> ancient gorilla --> gorilla

I don't know what the chain exactly is, but that's how it works. The other species of primates did evolve from older species.

Do people that dropped out in the 6th grade really think they are smarter than the entire scientific community?

Edit: Don't waste your time in R&S with all of your knowledge that you can add to science. Go publish a journal and win a Nobal Prize.

Edit: Your jokes are better than your scientific knowledge, but that isn't saying much.

What does it matter. We are apes. Different in the brain box but still apes.

Why not take further back to the fishes. What is it with fundies and apes. Yer maybe I can dig it.

Neanderthals are a separate subspecies. Not all primates have been exposed to the same environmental balance of pressure and support.

Apes and Man have a common ancestor, we evolved form an ape-like creature.
