Got a new kitten, other cat wont accept. help?
My cat who I have had for 6 months (female) has been all by her self in the house and is use to getting all the attention.
Today I just got a new kitten only 8 weeks old, and my other cat just wont expect it, she hisses and growls and wont go near her. And she has changed towards me, she doesn't want any attention (which is very unusual) and meows when I pat her.
Has anyone else had this problem and how long did it take your cat to adjust to the new addition?

Yes we took in this wild kitten that was four weeks old and it took a while for the other cats to accept him. (and i have three grown cats, one whom was 14 at the time. talk about spoiled cats!?) but it did happen in time. i'd say about 2 and a half months. keep an eye on your new kitten while he's little. you dont want your female cat to attack him. give them some time to get used to each other. it will happen. it starts w/ them tolerating each other. try to play w/them both. dangle string, get the balls that have the bell inside, get them to both play w/you. just keep any eye on your kitten while he's little.
honestly my cats act different when theyre not with each other. my cat Rocky is the most loving affectionate cat when the other two arent around. but when his buds are around he's very independent. take some individual time w/your female cat, play w/her and give her catnip and give her some individual attention and love so she'll know you still love her. when she walks into a room where the new kitty is, talk to her, tell her shes a good girl. i read somewhere that the more you praise a cat for being good, the less time it has to be a bad cat. and its true. my little wild orange kitty has gotten less wild since i started praising him more. (and he was really a bad little kitty!) but he is delightful now. he follows me everywhere and always wants to be loved on. and he doesnt jump on the counter anymore or scratch up the rug.
anyhow..i hope my advice helped. take care and have a super nite :)

I don't have cats of my own, but you can try some "human" solutions. Find out what the older cat likes and find out what the younger cat likes. If they like the same things (say like canned tuna), you can get them together, have two bowls (or one if you feel comfortable that they will somehow share), and dump the tuna in the bowl. Then they might have some way to cooperate.

Its perfectly normal for your cat to behave this way initially, and she'll most likely become used to the situation, so long as you spend lots of quality time with her, and try to facilitate her getting to know the kitten.

you just need to give your cat some time to get used to the kitten. cats are very territorial so she won't accept the kitten for a couple of weeks.

right this is how we introduce new comers to our gang - it may or won't be of use to you - Cats must be presented very slowly. firstly, we don't enable a sparkling cat to have any touch with our different cats until eventually a vet has given the hot cat a sparkling bill of well-being. This incorporates assessments for such issues as FIP and pussycat Leukemia. Cats may be effectively presented to one yet another regardless of their a protracted time or sexes. we've effectively extra person cats to our kinfolk containing the two previous and youthful cats to boot as introducing very youthful kittens to the different cats. It should be carried out slowly. in case you in basic terms placed them at the same time, you will fail maximum people of the time. the hot cat has to take transport of time to get used to you and the hot atmosphere. the prevailing cat has to get used to the scent of the hot cat. We introduce cats via keeping the hot cat contained in the back room for as much as a month. My workplace is there as is my spouse's sewing table. there's a settee and bookshelves. We spend a lot of time with the hot cat to get them used to us, the hot atmosphere and the hot smells. while they settle for us without problems, we placed a demonstrate door on the back room door physique and enable each and every person see one yet another for a week or so. it may take plenty much less time than a month to arise to now yet we purely take it sluggish and effortless. as quickly as we decide it risk-free to accomplish that, we enable the hot cats out into the abode and chaperon the 1st encounters. we've in basic terms ever had one concern introducing cats like this and that concern became resolved in a pair of weeks. we've had 25 cats over the final 22 years and a lot of of them have been adults - 12 and older - while they joined our kinfolk. we've additionally presented countless kittens, commencing from a protracted time of 7 weeks to 4 or 5 months, to something of the group without problems. you need to take it sluggish. in case you may not post a demonstrate door, in step with danger 2 toddler gates, stacked one on appropriate of the different, will close off the door yet nevertheless enable the cats to work out one yet another. in case you may not use a demonstrate door or toddler gates, attempt letting the prevailing cat into the room with the hot cat for a jiffy while you chaperon. If issues get undesirable, take the cat out of the room. you in basic terms ought to introduce cats slowly There are cats who must be thrown at the same time and grow to be buddies yet they're few and lots between.

like women, they also need territory.. so she felt offended & felt being taken over by different person... in other words she wants everybody in the household all by herself..
Youv've made a first mistake by adopting a cat which has the same gender... it would be a different scenario if you adopt a male kitten.
