Why can't I wear eye makeup at my age?
For ages now, I've been asking my mom if I can wear eyeliner and mascara, but she says I'm only thirteen and I have to wait until I'm older. I keep asking her why and she won't answer. Can somebody please tell me why I can't wear eye makeup?

i understand how you feel. when i was that age i wanted to wear makeup so BAD!
at that age, most people think you all do not need any makeup because you still have a sort of natural beauty and youth to your face. i mean come on, older women wear makeup to make themelves look younger right? but younger girls do it to feel older and maybe even look a little older.
just listen to your mom's advice right now. (trust me, I know it's hard). ask her can you at least experiment around the house with it on. you never know, she may see you with it on and say "hey, that's a reasonable amount, i can deal with you wearing just that" that's what my mom did for me. most girls aren't allowed to wear it til they're fourteen/fifteen anyway. so give it time. i'm sure you're gorgeous without it!

I started wearing makeup at 12, but only for special occasions, like dances.
When I was about 13, I was allowed to wear makeup. As I look back on those photos of me with all that makeup on, I look terrible! It's okay to experiment with makeup, but within reason of course (strong eyes, subtle lips & vice versa).
Just get lip gloss, eyeshadow, mascara, blush & foundation. I didn't start wearing eyeliner until I was about 14-15.
Also, do NOT wear other people's makeup, because you can get an infection. Some girls did that in my middle school & ended up getting pink eye.
And when using makeup brushes, be sure to wash them about once every week/2 weeks with a mild cleanser (like shampoo) to remove dirt & bacteria that will cause breakouts.
If you don't know what colors look best for your skin tone, eye color & hair color, go to http://www.covergirl.com/ or websites like that & it'll tell you what shades go best for you.
And always wash off your makeup before you go to bed!

I feel your pain.
I'm 13 now and when i first got into makeup my mom said that i could only wear lip products.
I just started sneaking on the makeup. I started out with the drugstore makeup only using mascara and eyeliner. I'd only wear it around the house and then i'd wear it out on the weekends when we'd go and run errands when she asked me why my answer is "who's gunna see me with it on"? and she couldn't say anything. Now, I don't go crazy with the eyeliner, i do it on the bottom lash line very lightly just to add some definition and on my bottom waterline. Later on i bought a translucent face powder because i was tired of my oily face. Now she's ok with me wearing makeup and she helps me buy it.

When you're young, you have youthfulness, and that's beautiful. That's more beautiful than any make up. As you get older, you wear more makeup so that you can attempt to replicate your natural youth.
Also, it's really easy to get into the notion of concealing your insecurities through makeup. Your mom may be trying to get you to overcome your insecurities. Once you're confident and comfortable with yourself, then you can wear make up.
I'm only 25, but I'm sorry, seeing young girls covered in make up is kinda gross. When I was your age, I didn't wear makeup. Honestly, at your age, you should be focusing on your academics rather than trying to impress guys. I know it sounds old fashioned, and perhaps I'm totally out of the loop, but I'm sure your mom shares similar views.
I'm sure you don't agree with me. But honestly, if you want to wear makeup, give your mom a solid argument. Have a mature discussion. Show your mom that you totally rocked your math exam and your academics are under control. Explain to her that since you're able to be independent and excel in school, you should be able to work on your makeup. Tell her why you want to do makeup. Perhaps you have an artistic hand and you like the idea of experimenting with your look. When I was younger, I started doing makeup by having make overs by "Clinique" and "The Body Shop". Both of these cosmetic lines strive to create beauty by using natural tones to enhance your features. I love MAC, and it may be trendy, but it's a little harder to sell your mom on bold colors and thick eye liner. Maybe ask your mom for mother-daughter makeovers for christmas.
Rather than fighting about this. Why not try the approach of asking your mom if SHE can do your makeup? Ask her if she can teach you about these things. It could be a great bonding experience.
At 13, I used tinted lipgloss and brown mascara (I'm a natural blonde). It's about looking natural at that age.

Wearing makeup makes a young girl look older. An older-looking girl makes it easier for dirty men to prey upon. That could be what she's thinking, or the earlier you start wearing makeup, it can damage your skin. You want that natural, beautiful looking skin for as long as possible.

lol your mom reminds me a lot like MY mom when I was 13
i'm in college now, but looking back she knew what she was talking about.
I was exACTly like you and i would always sneak makeup on when i left the house and took it off before i got back home.
but really.....looking back at myself back then......
i really wasn't missing much and neither are you. you'll probably wear makeup in like a year anyway right?...trust me, you're really not missing anything at all. People on tv make makeup look wayyyyyyy more glamorous than it actually is. and most of the women you see WEARING makeup...look hideous withOUT it. plus i've got guy friends and they say they prefer girls without all of that stuff on their face. all I'M saying is....you're still young (even though that's probably not what you want to hear) and you should just enjoy being 13..your time will come
plus you're probably pretty without makeup anyway :]

Hm, well I'm thirteen and I don't really wear makeup, but I can do it well so I've started doing makeup tutorials online.
Well maybe if she won't let you wear any makeup, maybe get your eyebrows done, it will make a huge difference to your appearance.
Also maybe buy a bit of concealer and foundation, just to cover the skin and make you look hydrated and refreshed.

Im 13, my mom lets me wear makeup i've been wearing it since maybe 6th grade. Umm well maybe she thinks you're going to go overboard on the makeup? Like just put a tiny bit on and ask her if its okay. If not then don't stress, most girls our age look better without makeup anyways and guys like girls with less makeup also =)
Good Luck!
Hope I helped.

I have no idea why you arent allowed to wear makeup. Im 11, and i wear eyeliner. So since your 13, and prob. in middle school, maybe secretly buy some or use some of your friends eye liner or mascara and just put it on in school? Unless you dont wanna sneak around....
Your choice! Hope i helped!
