Tiger Woods had a reputation for honesty, and Owe-bama hasn't.
Tiger Woods was popular, and Owe-bama is not.
We rather expect our politicians to be crooked, as we're so used to it.

It's because the country is "mesmerized"by entertainment and entertainment is mindless activity. There is also the factor of cognitive dissonance.
