you HAVE to read the 'Percy Jackson and the Olympian Series' I've read the whole series over 20 times (not kidding). its the best :D. there are 5 books in the series:
1. the lightning thief
2. the sea of monsters
3. the titans curse
4. the battle of the labyrinth
5. the last olympian
its my favorite series and the author is Rick Riordan. hope you read it :D

Percy Jackson and the Olympian Series Rick Riordan
The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis (Now you will understand that joke about the wardrobe that everyone talks about in TV shows and movies x])

You'd probably like Garth Nix's Abhorsen trilogy or Pullman's His Dark Materials. The Artemis Fowl series is a little juvenile, but it is genuinely funny cyberpunk-y fantasy. If you live near a used bookstore, I'd recommend K.A. Applegate's Everworld series (they're out of print, but they are EXCELLENT). Diana Wynne Jones's Chrestomanci series is great (anything by DWJ is great, Deep Secret is my favorite).

Well maybe try 'A Great and Terrible Beauty' by Libba Bray. I really enjoyed the first two and the third is just so large it's actually a bit daunting to imagine reading.
I also liked Pendragon by D.J. MacHale though it's been a while since I read them.

"Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell" by Suzanna Clarke is a BRILLIANT book! It's not a series, but it's about 1,000 pages long, and it's developed better than most series. One of the best books I've ever read.
