Is misspelled spelled, "Mis-spelled" or Misspelled?

"Misspelled" (and its British English equivalent "misspelt") is correct according to the OED and others. It probably started as a hyphenated word because most, but not all, of our compound words and negatively prefixed words began that way.

Ok! Let's be clear on that, because the way of spelling (writing) a word and the way of spelling it (telling it) might well be two very different matters. All depends on what sense you want to give to the word "spell".

If spell means write the word in the correct way and letters' order, then "misspelled" is correct,

but if you give to "spell" the sense of telling the word, the true way is "mis.spelled" to show both words or syllables used to express the word. But in no way it could be written like that or like

"mis-spelled". Its orthographic writing is well one word without any sign in between.

My friend commented on one of my pictures on facebook saying my friend who commented earlier spelled "stars" wrong...don't ask me how...I commented saying you spelled misspelled wrong. He then questioned me saying, 'How do you know that your just not spelling mis-spelled...

I think it's probably just misspelled.

Its actually "misspelled" with two "L's".

I'm afraid I'll misspell it. lol
