Who likes Shelby Foote?

Update:

I read his Civil War series twice in a row, back to back. It was even better the second time.

Someone should make a movie trilogy based as closely on his "Civil War" series as is cinematically possible. 12-hour director's cut, like LOTR.

Some ideal casting:

General Lee: Anthony Hopkins

Bedford Forrest: Daniel-Day Lewis

Stonewall Jackson: Brad Pitt

Jefferson Davis: Gary Oldman

George McLellan: Hayden Christiansen

General Sherman: Christian Bale

U.S. Grant: Russel Crowe

John Bell Hood: Leo DeCaprio

James Longstreet: Jack Black

Abraham Lincoln: Jim Carrey???

I liked him and bought all his books on the civil war, however, I will admit that it took me ages to go through it all. Not surprising as it took 20 years of his life to research and write them.

I loved the interviews they had with him when the Civil War series was made back in 1985 (approximately) from Rick & Ken Burns. Bought those video's and (later) Cd's as well.

Is Shelby Foote still alive today?

Extra.....I just looked it up, unfortunately he passed away in 2005........God Bless him.

I loved his manner, his "down home" sensability, his southern drawl, his sense of humor, his laugh, his astute assessment of incidents of the civil war. He was very entertaining and a pleasure to watch on Ken Burns' The Civil War. He was like everyone's favorite uncle who could tell a good story and keep you mezmorized while telling it. It was a real shame to lose him a few years ago, but it makes one appreciate what we had when he was still here.
