My 18th month old yellow lab sheds A LOT!?
I hv an 18th month old yellow lab and he sheds like crazy. I literally find clumps of white hair all over the house. We vacuum every morning and by the end of the day, we have to vacuum again. It's December, I was told that they don't shed during winter. Is there something wrong with him? Or is there something I should be doing? He eats very well and I even add chicken or steak with his dog food at every meal.
well, what's the best dog food for a yellow lab?
He does get a daily brushing.
larkin - can you pls. explain how adding steak or chicken in his food will eventually make him sick one day?

Your idea of very good food and mine might be two very different things.
Dogs shed year round. It's not surprising that your dog is blowing coat now that the weather is getting colder. Brush him with a tool designed for getting out the loose hair (like a furminator or shed blade) to get most of the dead hair out. He will likely shed the most at the beginning of the winter and in spring, but he will always shed.

Labs shed all year round.. i own a Labrador myself but in the winter they just shed less.. again it depends where you live.. maybe you should brush her and not just vaccume the house that won't change the fact that your dog needs to be brushed to remove the dead hair.

Is this your first dog? If so then you are probably just not used to having a bigger dog. Labs do shed quite a bit. If this is NOT your first dog and you know what normal shedding looks like and you are still alarmed then bring him to the vet or local petsmart Bandfield vet just to check and see. I wish you and your pup luck!

most likely shedding his puppy coat. He is now growing his adult coat and no longer needs the soft fluffy coat. But he could be a little stressed with the moving to. but i don't think that would cause him to shed a lot.

You should talk to your vet about changing his diet. Shedding can be associated with diet.

get a furminator comb and have the groomers give him a furminator treatment. will help with the vacuuming.
