When Mayweather was champ and fighter of the year how come Roger Mayweather never won trainer of the year?
Roach got it why not Roger? And Why after fights Freddy gets to talk but they never ask Roger for a interview. What you do call this? Is the consider hatred, racism, or do they just hate and not respect none of the Mayweathers? Everyone should get equal oppurtunities. So if I were floyd why not voice your opinion? This is why they hate Floyd because he voices his opinion and tells the truth about how he gets treated.
So in my first answer this shows that mayweather has everything to lose and nothing to gain. mayweather was a huge underdog against corrales that should have been perfect for trainer of the year. Are Roger should have got it right afte the Gatti massacre. Im sorry RoGer will never get that award unless mayweather loses two fights in a row then come back and win one are two. this is crazy

Ban_76 - Actually Roger trained him in the amatuers, olympics, and majority of his pro career.
To answer your question, Mayweather's are the black sheep of boxing. They will not give them any accolades unless they absolutely have to. Floyd has been shouting for years that his uncle is the best trainer in boxing and his record shows it. Roach is only getting trainer of the year because they are trying to build the hype around Pacquiao to beat Mayweather. This will be over soon, after Mayweather beats Pacquiao, I guarantee Roger won't even get a post fight interview from Larry Merchant let alone trainer of the year.

Now I like Roger, but Roach's talent as a trainer is simply more obvious because you should have gotten a look at Pac BEFORE Roach got a hold of him. That old Pacman had just one real punch. None of the angles you see now. And atrocious defense. He used to just throw his left and pause right there with nothing guarding his head. The real die-hard Filipino boxing fans have seen him in a weekly boxing show called Blow-by-Blow in the Philippines. And when Pac had his first title shot against Chatchai Sasakul, my friend was telling me that this guy Pacquiao had ZERO chance of winning, simply because he cannot box. If you can get hold of Time's article on Pacquiao you'll also read about it there. That at that time, if you asked someone about a certain boxer named Manny Pacquiao, they all would have said "Nothing special."
Floyd had the benefit of having been trained by a world class father and uncle. I'm sure Roger is pretty good. But Roach turned Pacquiao into a wholly different fighter. I really doubt that Pacquiao would have made it as far as he has on his own.

To be honest, I was actually hoping that Floyd would win this one. Why? Well Pac has already won The Ring's, HBO's, BWAA's, and ESPN's fighter of the year awards. That's is obviously more than enough and weighs a lot heavier than Yahoo Sport's award. If he couldn't sway the experts to give him an award ... then at least his fans was able to cast their votes and gave him an award. This is much better than his fans posting stuff like "Floyd is the best fighter in world" ... at least ESPY published their opinions for them. To say however that The Ring Magazine and BWAA etc should be ashamed of themselves is ... a fanboy opinion to say the least. ESPY is pretty much the same as casting a poll here in Yahoo ... and then posting the results after a month. To say that a poll is a more credible source than The Ring, BWAA, HBO, etc is laughable. And for the thread starter to post the reasons such as Pacquiao getting KO'ed twice on a Fighter of the year ... yes, year ... not entire career or even decade award only shows how much he knows about boxing. Pacquiao didn't get KO'ed last year ... nor did he get those "gift" decisions last 2009. It seems that he was so thrilled that Floyd won an award other than Yahoo and Forbe's ... he forgot that it was only an award that was decided by fans ... and it was mainly focused on Floyd's performance within the last year. He thought it was an award based on Pac and Floyd's entire career ... and started talking about Pac's loss 14years ago lmao! Still however, I would like to congratulate Floyd. Your fans have spoken.

I have asked this question. This is why Steve Forbes wanted to hire him for the De La Hoya fight. It amazes me that he has trained Floyd for over a decade and won 6 world titles with him and while Floyd has been Fighter of the year twice ...Roger has gotten little recognition. Floyd has said many time Roger is the best trainer in the world. As far as post fight interviews, Roger let's Floyd get all the shine after his victories. He knows his role. This is why on 24/7 Roger did not complain about Floyd Sr. being in the gym. He knows that's his son but he rules that corner. He obviously is one of the best trainers today but the boxing world is in anti-Mayweather mode.

it doesn't necessary follow that the trainer gets the best trainer award when his ward is champion, winning is the best fighter of the year. I think Roach got his award not only because of Manny Pacquuiao's exploits but also due to the performance of other fighters he had trained, including other high-profiled fighters. Mayweather, Jr is a very talented boxer and had always been the overwhelming favorite in his fights. it is not very difficult to train and prepare him for any fight. In comparison, Pacquiao had been underdog in some of his earlier high-profiled fights, including his first ones against Barrera and Morales. And constantly rising up in weight and meeting a variety of tough opponents, it would take some doing by his trainer to prepare Pacquiao for his fights. It's the degree of difficulty, I believe that clinched those awards for Roach. And despite his slur, Roach is a more sensible, better communicator with the media than Roger who seems to always have that daring "knock that chip on my shoulder" stance.

For after fights...
Would you expect roger can still say a word when Floyd is doing all the talking, as if he doesn’t want to pass the mic to anybody. And roger is a little bit shy or maybe scared of interviews for it might bring up the issue of a woman he beat up…
Usually Roach is called only in behalf of pacman when ask for the next opponent of which pacman will just point him out as just a fighter not a promoter…

truth is roger only inherited floyd from floyd sr. when he was already a fully developed fighter, so if anyone deserves credit it floyd sr... everybody knows how smart and skilled floyd is so whoever hes trainer is, mayweather or not, i dont think hell get that much credit because of that..while roach turned manny from an unknown one dimensional brawler to a more complete fighter overall and now a champion so he deserves all the credit for that...

Because although a top boxing trainer - Roger Mayweather can come across as an inarticulate bigot.

Mayweather was always expected to win because of his natural ability, and he did. Pacquiao is a great talent, but in moving up I guess he wasn't expected to destroy his opposition the way that he has. Therefore the trainer gets credit for the fight plan he put together. Your opinion might have some validity to it also, who knows?
