For kitchen chemistry, where in the UK can you buy borax and hydrogen peroxide?

I'm trying to find ingredients for various experiments that I've found on the internet such as rude putty and elephant's toothpaste - so many cool experiments I've discovered that claim to use household ingredients are written by Americans who apparently have access to a bigger range of available chemicals in supermarkets and chemists than we do - she says after searching fruitlessly in the big supermarket chains, Boots and Wilkinsons. Any advice for finding this stuff? I've run out of people to show my baking soda/vinegar volcano to and need some new experiments to show the kids!

I'm surprised you couldn't just walk into your local chemist and buy Borax!

= pasted from wikipedia = also known as sodium borate, sodium tetraborate, or disodium tetraborate

    As for hydrogen peroxide try

Though, in my ignorance - and judging by the amount of "peroxide blondes" you see on the street - I thought you could buy that at the chemist too.

Not an answer but a suggestion: ask your local pharmacist. When I were a lad that was where I used to buy such stuff.

Alternative suggestion: if you're at/near a school, get friendly with a Science technician ask if they can scab some for you. Some have a lot of life left in them (in spite of working in a school!) and love their field and might be interested in how your experiments turn out.

Boots stores sell both Borax and Hydrogen Peroxide (The Peroxide is usually behind the counter) - the borax will be hidden away with the other household cleaners. (Ask about the borax when getting the peroxide if you are unable to find it)

Hydrogen peroxide is used as a wound disinfectant, and sometimes as a hair-bleaching solution. Try a pharmacy. It'll be in a brown bottle, as it's sensitive to light.

Borax is a household cleaning product. It comes in powdered form. Look wherever you get general household cleaners.

Could try asking schools where they get theirs from. Or you might have to buy online, search home chemistry kits.

I believe there hydrogen peroxide in paracetamol ( use to work in a pharmacy and had a warning through, bombs and what not!)

In a grocery store. Do you have Stop and shops in the UK? If you do go there, if not grocery stores will have both.
