I've always heard that muscle-building exercise will"stunt a child's growth," Now I hear it's recommended for children. Is strength training safe for kids?

Any exercise will build muscle. And since kids need exercise than it won't stunt their growth.

The theory was that lifting weights would student their growth. That's not true, though heavy lifting for kids might not be safe for a couple of reasons.

Certainly bodyweight exercises are great for kids...along with running, climbing, wrestling, and any other large muscle movement.

Kids don't play as much now so exercise has become even more important. It doesn't mean they have to play sports, though. They just need to move!

It depends on how you define a kid(the age) and what your idea of strength training is, Weight lifting is not recommended for kids under the age of 14, that is not to say that light weight at high reps is a bad thing. Running, Swimming, Walking, Jumping Jacks, push ups, sit ups, ect. they are all fine, and by far the safest way to strength train. The best thing to do is to start out small, maybe go for a 5 min walk, 10min run, 8min walk, for the first week, then next a 4 min walk 15min run, 9min walk. I think you get the idea, Last notes, one is that what ever you do have a plan and stick to it, don't start out to hard to fast, build you way up to harder thing, and lastly be safe, and don't push yourself too hard, it is said that the second week is when the most problems happen, and when it is the hardest, so don't give up. And please be safe, I am a swimmer, and I inured a knee last year, and it still hurts me.

If you add yourself this questions: “What sort of plan must I follow if I do want to then add significant weight in the shortest amount of time probable? Should I really do some type of periodization plan to work as much as my next max-out? Should I accomplish different bench press modifications?” then you will find the answers here https://tr.im/JaoBQ .

Critical Bench is more than an eBook. The web site it self has some decent posts and information and gives a feeling of community, that is frequently lacking in different products. Lots of these bodybuilding eBooks are just that, eBooks. If you have a concern, or something you want to examine you've to check elsewhere but Critical Bench program will allow you to most of the way.
