2009 VW Jetta Transmission replaced after 2200 miles! Would VW replace for me?
I just bought my BRAND NEW 2009 Jetta two months ago, and it started acting up and I took it to the dealer. They had to replace the transmission because it was leaking. I have been talking with VW to try to have them replace my car since it is a major repair with LOW miles. How much will that repair depreciate my car since it will be on carfax? How can they guarantee that it didn't damage any of the other components? What are the odds of VW giving me a replacement?

VWOA (VW of America) is notoriously crappy as far as customer service goes.
Good luck.
Should've just gotten a stick in the first place.

What is it with transmissions?
A friend of mine has a 2008 Honda. The trans went out in it AFTER the warranty expired. She is currently putting together a petition to send to Honda because after researching her car , she found out that many others were having the same problems.
Honda disavows all problems with the trans. She was out $1000s.
My brothers Silverado trans has been replaced twice. Out of his pocket.
On the plus side my wifes 2005 Jetta has had not one single problem. A superlative example of reliability.
As with any car manufacturer, VW is obligated to replace any defective part during the warranty period. But unless the trans fails again [or another major component continuously fails], they are not obligated to replace the car.
Really though, you will be happy with the Jetta once this is over. It really is a great car.

Sorry, to have to tell you this, but after working with VW on and off over a twenty-five year period, I can tell you that the chances are zero. Even under the various so called "Lemon Laws" of various states, you have to have a number of majour failures and/or the vehicle has to be out of service of a certain length of time. Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975, you can request that you warranty be extended of the number of days that the vehicle was out of service. If they refuse you upon this account, you can contact their legal department, they should be aware of the Magnuson-Moss Act for a "limited warranty," which all vehicles are sold with. Besides, there is always a proceedure that must be followed before any vehicle can qualify for "Lemon Law" buyback or other sorts of resolution.
You might be able to talk VW into a "VW service contract" for a limited extension beyond the factory warranty for the power train or something like that, but, beyond that, probably nothing.
I say this having been on all sides of the service department isle; service manager, service writer, technican and even a parts person. After a number of failures, VW is more likely to buy the car back rather than give you a new vehicle.. but this only happens after a lot of failures and a month or more of the vehicle being out of service.
I wish I could give you better news, but at least it happended now, rather than being out of warranty. Most likely you got an exchanged assembly rather than having the dealership repair your unit. Best wishes always, a car nut.

This will be replaced by warranty. VW will not replace the car. Repairs do not factor into depreciation. Also, if this car has DSG (Direct Sequential Gearbox), there was a recall, but I doubt your car was under it, since you did not say if it was a GLi. As in affecting other components, they will check everything once the transmission is replaced.

You are not going to get a new car. The car had a problem, VW fixed it. That's the end.
