What would be a good item to model with maya?
I recently started using maya and I want to explore to model something in 3d but I'm not sure where to start. I wish to follow tutorial but at the same time, I just want to try my hands on an object first. Not sure what object or item I should model. I have done a head before though.
Any suggestion?

Nice.. i love maya!
U could try modelling cars if u wanna improve on your hard-surface modelling. OR
u could model organic creatures if you're into organic modelling.

I took a class on maya and we started with machines (copters, cars, etc), since they're mostly made of basic shapes and can be freely designed.
