Why is that US kids are so poor that they need free rides to public transport?

The board of the nation's largest transit agency reluctantly approved a 2010 budget Wednesday that would cut bus and subway service and leave New York City children without free rides to public transport.

Becausre of the unequal distribution of resources , paying for wars and bank bail outs. The education budget has been cut to pay for the above,so that the poor children have to walk to school, if they can't afford $2.25 each way

Guess what? I'm actually RICH and i take the bus. I hate when people generalize and assume that you're poor when you take the bus. My parents don't have time to drop me at school okay?

...now it's like even you know it's all empty rhetoric...and what's the fun in that?

Some kids maybe. Your point? Should these children suffer because their parents aren't rich?
