How to open Word file in Ubuntu?

The file is .doc or .docx and Open Office in Ubuntu can not open it. It says error: MIME: ..... "application/msword"

    Take a look at OpenOffice 3.1 which is included as default on Ubuntu 9.10

    I would suggest you download and install open office. It is nearly identical to Microsoft office and can handle all Microsoft office files including word, excel and powerpoint.

    Best of all it is free, and a lot more powerful than microsoft office.

    Try opening with note pad.. or change back to windows if you dont know how to work on ubantu
