What is on the "Permission to Marry" form in the state of Indiana? What will the judge ask?

We were wondering what is on the form and what the judge normally asks about when applying for the form. My daughter is 15 and wants to marry her 17 year old boyfriend. They are having a baby. The baby is not the only reason they want to marry, we've been over the pro's and con's. Right now we are just trying to figure out how to get them married since that is what they want to do.

    Google is a powerful tool, my friend.

    http://www.in.gov/legislative/ic/code//title31/ar1...

    The main part is what you need:

    IC 31-11-2-2

    Execution of consent to marry

    Sec. 2. (a) A consent to marry under this chapter must be signed and verified in the presence of the clerk of the circuit court by:

    (1) both parents, natural or adoptive, of the individual who is less than eighteen (18) years of age;

    (2) the legally appointed guardian of the individual;

    (3) one (1) parent of the individual if legal custody has been awarded to that parent by a judicial decree; or

    (4) one (1) parent if the other parent:

    (A) is deceased;

    (B) has abandoned the individual who is less than eighteen (18) years of age;

    (C) is physically or mentally incompetent to furnish the written consent; or

    (D) is an individual whose whereabouts is unknown.

    (b) If only one (1) parent signs the consent under subsection (a)(3) or (a)(4), the consent must contain a verified statement of fact that explains why only one (1) parent is required to sign the consent.

    So hopefully you and your husband (is he the biological father?) agree on this decision. If you are divorced you will probably need biological father's permission as well.

    This website (http://law.jrank.org/pages/11840/Marriage-Age-Requ... mentions that in your state the petition can be aquired in your state in the event of a pregnancy. Keep in mind, though, the fee is $120 whether or not the judge rules that the marriage is to occur.

    Please keep in mind also that she is 15 and he is 17. How mature were you at that age? How ready for marriage were you at that age? Teen marriage divorce rates are very high. This article addresses some good points:

    Come on buddy! What 15 year old girl really knows what she wants to do? Let alone a 17 year old boy. I'm sure he has a real good job and is well able to support himself + a wife and a kid. You've got to be kidding!

    My hat is off to you for not making your daughter get an abortion but, trying to marry her off will only compound her problems at that age. She's just a kid herself! And so is her boy friend for that matter.

    You would be smart NOT to marry her off too soon. Wait and see if the boy friend comes around every day and helps take care of the baby or he goes out partying with his buddies.

    Lust and love are two totally different things. He fell in lust and talked her into having sex and she thinks she's in love.

    Mark my words, this marriage won't last if you can find a judge to approve it. They have too much growing up to do yet.

    Spend some money and send them through premarital counseling before you do anything!

    It will be cheaper than a divorce later.

    What ever you decide to do I wish you and yours the very best!

    You, as the parent of a 15 year old that wants to get married, have to give her permission to do so. Do you give her permission??
