Gift recieving question.?
I literally have no money to buy anything for anyone this year. I feel AWFUL about this. Do I still accept gifts though I have nothing to give in return? What do I say to people about why they aren't getting a gift or why I am not accepting gifts this year. Do I stay away from celebrations? Is it acceptable to give a hand-made gift when you know the other person has spent money, sometimes lots of money, on your present? Thank-you.

Hand made gifts can be the best since it shows that you cared enough to make something. With the economy the way it is right now small thoughtful gifts would be acceptable maybe you could make some kind of coupon book that can be redeemed at a later time. Personally I would love handmade gifts (except clothes since most of my relatives do NOT understand my tastes) and I would be totally understanding of anyone who says they are having some trouble making ends meet.

I would have ALREADY told my friends who are likely to buy a gift, that I'd appreciate NOT exchanging gifts this year. Made gifts, food, cookies, etc., is perfectly acceptable as a gift. Gift amounts do NOT have to match, especially if people know the financial condition you are in this year. Hope this helps, and don't worry much about it. Maybe next year you will be the one in big money. Friends are for a lifetime, not for just one holiday season.

Anyone can buy something if they have enough money. Making something is much better because its personal and people will enjoy it more because its a symbol of hard work

Other people shouldn't expect to get something in return-(that's what it means to be truely giving)-so don't feel bad.
