fellow Pagans, what are you doing for the holiday?
Just wanted to wish everybody a happy Yule! i was curious as to whether your family had any traditions or if you were doing anything special today. in my family, i guess the only thing we did for Yule was open presents-- never really had much significance other than presents to us kids until we were older. since i'm expecting a little boy this March, i've been trying to think of traditions i can start in my own family that my son can grow up with. where's a good place to start?

We'll be baking some cookies. The kids will help decorate the Yule log (like I could do anything crafty without them trying to help :)) We'll do a small gift for each and talk about what Yule means. As they get older I think I'll introduce having their own candle to light before they go to bed. We're slowly putting together our own traditions.

I didn't do anything special, just had a quiet glass of mead with my BF, baked a golden round-shaped pie with a suncross on it to celebrate the rebirth of the sun and hanged out my Yule lights and decorated my Yule tree :)

In my pagan group (my "chosen" family!), we cast a circle and each recited what we would be leaving behind in last year, and what we would be beginning the growth of for the new year. Your little one won't be ready for that for a while, but by watching his parents, it will be second nature when his time comes. Yule logs, cookies, Solstice decorations are all things that add to the season. If he sees it from a young age, and helps when age appropriate, they might persist for more than one generation.
