Baby does not get enough of my breast milk?
I'm breastfeeding my baby. He is 6 wks old now....and for the past one week or so, he doesnt seem to be satisfied after the feed...I'm having to supplement him with formula or expressed breast milk....atleast 2 ounces.....he's started taking 3.5 ounces now.....which means that he is only getting about 1.5 ounces from me.
He feeds for atleast 45 mins or so.....my left breast has more milk than my right.....and also the letdown is very slow on the right....so now he has started getting on my right....and feeds only when he is drowsy...when he is not that active.
What can I do to increase the milk production? My friend was asking me to drink lots of water....actually since my delivery, I've reduced the water intake to less than a litre....could that be just one of the reasons?
Any tips?

Around 6 weeks your child goes through a growth spurt. This is the reason why he wanted to nurse more. It was to increase your milk supply. But when you offered him formula you actually did the opposite of your supply. You decreased it. At having a bottle for a few feedings some babies will refuse the breast or not nurse for long because they like the fast flow less work of the bottle.
The best way to increase your milk supply is to stop using the formula. The more often your breast are emptied the faster they will fill up again (the more milk you will produce).
Since he has been getting the bottle more he may fight you at the breast but just stick with it and don't give in to offer the bottle. After 2-3 good days of solid nursing your supply will increase. You can also purchase a pump and pump for about 10 minutes after he is done nursing or hand express. The goal is to get out as much milk as possible frequently.
You need to drink enough water to quench your thrist. If you urine is pale to clear then you are drinking enough water. Even women who have not been able to drink water (due to extreme conditions - weather, disasters) are still able to produce breast milk for many many days.

The reason your not producing enough breastmilk is because your are supplementing with formula ditch the formula or else your going to end up just formula feeding eventually. When my son was this young and he would go through growth spurts he would eat every hour to two hours and I would just sit at home and nurse nurse nurse. The best way to increase your supply is to breastfeed and drink plenty of water. Good luck and really ditch the formula breastfeeding is so much more rewarding and the bond is amazing :)

Visit with a lactation consultant. Keep in mind the more formula you give him the less your body has to produce. It is all about supply and demand. He might be going through a growth spurt right now. Let him nurse as much and when he wants to get your supply up. If he is not nursing both sides maybe pump the side he does not nurse. I am not a lactation consultant just a mom who nursed her three boys (two are twins) and strongly believes in breastfeeding. Good luck !!

Drink AT LEAST 8 glasses of water a day. 6wks is the start of a growth spurt as well, you can increase milk production by NOT SUPPLEMENTING.

Drink more water and milk. You can look up online things to eat and drink to have you make more milk. Also you can talk to your doctor about not producing enough milk for the baby and they can give you a vitamin that helps you to produce more. I had to do that.

Are you sure that your baby isn't going through a growth spurt or cluster feeding? I remember that there was a point when it felt like my baby wad permanently being nursed! But she got over it!
